This is especially helpful to those of you aren’t familiar with Spiderman or comics in general.
Read and learn, young grasshopper.
How to Choose?
If you’re new to the Spidey world, then let us start off by sending you a big, warm welcome!
Next, you’ll need to know where to start when it comes to choosing a graphic novel, so here are a few tips that will help you get started:
- Good Storyline. The graphics are only one part of the story. If the words aren’t equally as cool, then you’ll finish reading it with a very disappointing feeling.
- Familiarize Yourself with the Characters. You might want to spend a bit of time researching the full character list in the Spider-Man series. It will help you understand the stories a lot easier when you’re a newbie.
- Should Worlds Collide? Number 2 below (Civil War) contains a mixture of Spider-Man and other famous superheroes, such as batman, superman, daredevil.
Some of you like the mashup of characters while others just want the spotlight to remain on Spidey. It’s up to you which you prefer!
- If You’ve Seen the Movie Before Reading. There is a big chance that you’ve seen one of the Spider-Man movies already, and if you have, then you’ll have to approach the graphic novels and comics pretending that you haven’t.
The books are completely different and each artist has a different vision for what the characters look like. Stop picturing Tobey Maguire!

3 Best Spiderman Graphic Novels Reviews
The graphics on Superior Spider-Man are just a superb as the dialogue. Everything in here is awesome!
Being Volume 1 in the series, this is a good starting point for new Spidey fans and those who are already fans will enjoy the change of direction this takes (well, some of you will and some of you won’t). We did!
Dan Slott’s take on Peter Parker definitely got us hooked and we think he’ll hook you, too! We risk giving away some of the storyline here, which is why we will now move on to the next option.
As we mentioned earlier, this Spider-Man throws a bunch of other superheroes into the mix for another unique spin on Spidey.
In Civil War, you get a little X-Men action, Iron Man, Avengers, Hulk, Doctor Strange and…and…and… There are tons more! Graphically, we commend illustrator Ron Garney for his take on such a vast number of superheroes. Well done, mate!
You’ll appreciate this more if you are familiar with a wide range of comics and if you already know a bit about Spidey. We can see it being a little disappointing when you don’t know much about the other characters, so if you’re new to everything and you still want to read it, do a bit of character research beforehand to prepare yourself. You’ll understand it much easier.
This is a classic to have in your Spider-Man collection. Writer J. M. DeMatteis and illustrator Mike Zeck make the perfect pair, which makes the story flow smoothly from start to finish.
We get to know more about one of Spider-Man’s lesser-known villains, which is a breath of fresh air and prevents us from seeing the death of any of our favorite main characters (which usually happens in comics).
You’ll find that the story is darker than some of the other Spider-Man graphic novels, but it does keep the wheels turning in your brain and we definitely loved all of the action scenes.
Die-hard fans love having this in their collection and it definitely competes with some of the top comics out there based on other superheroes.
