About Julia Quinn
Julia Quinn is the pen name of Julie Pottinger, an American historical romance author. She is the New York Times Bestselling author of over 30 novels, including the Bridgerton series.
She graduated from Harvard University with a degree in Art History. She tried to study medicine at Yale but eventually became a writer because she “realized that she must have experienced a bout of temporary insanity and she withdrew from medical school” to pursue a writing career.
Although she considers herself a history geek, she doesn’t enjoy researching historical facts; instead, she prefers to read books about it or watch movies.
Julia Quinn is known for writing romances set in the Regency period and Jane Austen fan fiction.
Her books are usually set in the Regency period of England and follow the love stories of young, aristocratic couples.
She is also well known for writing humorous books but still full of love stories to tug at the heartstrings.
Many of these novels also feature families close together and care about each other, which has made her books popular among fans who enjoy family-centered stories.
The Duke and I
Bridgerton series is a collection of eight novels, plus a novella, that follow the Bridgerton family. The series is set in the Regency period and follows the love stories of various family members.
“The Duke and I” is the first in the series. The book introduces readers to Daphne Bridgerton, who works hard to help her family escape their embarrassing financial situation by marrying well.
However, when she meets Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings, she gets more than she bargained for–a wonderful marriage and two adorable children.
The rest of the books follow various members of the Bridgerton family as they find love in this fascinating, 19th-century world full of scandalous romantic possibilities.
The book was a RITA Award finalist in 2001.
