Book Description:
This series aims to provide the student with accessible, annotated editions of key texts in English and American literature from the medieval to the modern period. 'Lyrical Ballads' is one of the most famous collections of English verse ever published. Written jointly by Wordsworth and Coleridge, these poets' ambitious aim was to create a radically new kind of verse, addressing the concerns of ordinary humanity in the language of ordinary humanity. In addition to 'The Ancient Mariner' and 'Tintern Abbey', it includes such poems as 'The Idiot Boy', 'Nutting' and 'Michael'. This book reproduces a slightly modernised form of the 1805 text (the last prepared by the poets), including, in full, the poets' comments on their work.
