An apocalyptic plague has infected every man, woman and child, changing them into blood crazed, rampaging vampires and they’re all out for his blood. A hunter by day, he hides away in his house at night, determined to survive their attacks. But a new strain of vampire is evolving, committed to creating a new world, and to them, Neville is every bit as frightening as they are to him. This eerie ghost story, by award winning author of Hell House and I Am Legend, inspired the acclaimed 1999 film starring Kevin Bacon.

The Beardless Warriors of World War II

In 1944, long before he wrote such classic novels as I Am Legend and What Dreams May Come, author Richard Matheson served as an eighteen year old replacement in the 87th Division during the latter part of the war in Europe. His tour of duty there inspired this acclaimed novel about a group of equally young and inexperienced soldiers thrown into the fury of combat. The Beardless Warriors are a squad of teenage U.S. infantrymen fighting their way across Germany during the final weeks of the war. Under fire and in over their heads, the fresh faced young men must grow up fast if they ever hope to see home again. Everett Hackermeyer is the latest soldier to join the squad, ‘Hack,’ a troubled youth from a hellish family background, faces a new kind of inferno on the front lines, only to discover hidden reserves he never knew he possessed. Ironically, he doesn’t come to value his own life until he runs the very real chance of losing it.

Hell House

For one night, Barrett and his colleagues investigate the Belasco House and learn exactly why the townfolks refer to it as the Hell House.

Somewhere In Time / Bid Time Return

Like What Dreams May Come, which inspired the upcoming movie starring Robin Williams, Somewhere in Time is the powerful story of a love that transcends time and space, written by one of the Grand Masters of modern fantasy. Matheson’s classic novel tells the moving, romantic story of a modern man whose love for a woman he has never met draws him back in time to a luxury hotel in San Diego in 1896, where he finds his soul mate in the form of a celebrated actress of the previous century. Somewhere in Time won the World Fantasy Award for Best Novel, and the 1979 movie version, starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour, remains a cult classic whose fans continue to hold yearly conventions to this day.

Hunger and Thirst

Richard Matheson’s FIRST and previously UNPUBLISHED novel, written over 50 years ago when Matheson was 23, the book was considered unpublishible by his then agent due to its length. The book sat in Matheson’s cabinet for over 50 years and only now sees the light of day. The story of Erick, who after a botched robbery in which he was shot, lays in his room paralyzed and contemplates the mess he’s made of his life as he hopes to be saved.

Hunted Past Reason

The bestselling author of such classic novels as I Am Legend and What Dreams May Come, Richard Matheson is one of the twentieth century’s acknowledged masters of suspense. Hunted Past Reason is a major literary event: Matheson’s first new novel in seven years and a gripping tale of madness, paranoia, and murder. It’s supposed to be just an ordinary camping trip, two old acquaintances hiking through the wilderness toward a remote cabin in the woods of northern California. Bob Hansen, a middle aged family man and author, isn’t anticipating anything worse than sore muscles and maybe a few chilly nights. But the enforced isolation of the hike soon exposes long hidden rivalries and resentments between Bob and his guide through the forest, a fading TV actor whom Bob has known for several years. The deeper they get into the primeval wilderness and the farther from civilization, the greater the tension between the two men becomes until the simmering hostility erupts into a terrifying life or death struggle for survival. Two men entered the woods, but only one may emerge alive. Hunted Past Reason is a nail biting thriller in the classic Matheson tradition.

Abu and the 7 Marvels

From the land of genies and their magical feats comes this enchanting twist on the traditional quest tale. Abu, a young peasant, sets off with the most ancient genie in his country’s domain in search of the seven marvels of the world in order to prove himself worthy of the hand of a beautiful princess. With cunningly crafted prose, gorgeous illustrations, and unique characters, this novel reveals itself to be no ordinary genie tale. From an unraveling flying carpet and ever encroaching henchmen to a land made of sweets and a city under the sea, this tale takes readers on a daring journey of true love, bravery, glittering treasure, and intrigue.

The Link

The Link began as a 557 page outline Richard Matheson wrote for a proposed 20 hour ABC TV mini series in the 1970’s. Television executives asked him to shorten the series into 7 hours. Later, after Matheson had written three hours of the miniseries the two parted company. Matheson’s vision could not be condensed without destroying the essence of the plot and characters. This is that original outline, in narrative form, appearing here in publication for the first time.

The story follows Robert Allright as he explores both his own demons and those of psychics past, as he struggles to decipher his father’s dying wish to explore an archeological dig in Arizona. His only clue is a mystifying crystal that his father believes is the key to a great discovery.

Other Kingdoms

For over half a century, Richard Matheson has enthralled and terrified readers with such timeless classics as I Am Legend, Somewhere in Time, and What Dreams May Come. Now the grand master returns with a bewitching tale of erotic suspense and enchantment.

The year is 1918. Alex White, a young American soldier recently wounded in the Great War, comes to Gatford to escape his troubled past. The pastoral English village seems the perfect spot to heal his wounded body and soul, but the neighboring woods are said to be haunted by capricious, even malevolent, spirits. He is warned to steer clear of the woods, and the perilous faerie kingdom it borders, but Alex cannot help himself. Drawn to its verdant mysteries, he finds love, danger, and wonders that will forever change his view of the world.

Other Kingdoms casts a magical spell, as conjured by a truly legendary storyteller.

Duel

Remember that murderous semi chasing Dennis Weaver down a lonely stretch of desert highway? Duel, Steven Spielberg’s acclaimed first film, was adapted by Richard Matheson from his unforgettable story of the same name. But ‘Duel’ is only one of the classic suspense tales in this outstanding collection of stories by the Grand Master of Horror, which also contains Matheson’s legendary first story, ‘Born of Man and Woman,’ as well as several stunning shockers that inspired memorable episodes of The Twilight Zone, including ‘Little Girl Lost,’ ‘Steel,’ and ‘Third from the Sun.’Like Matheson’s previous collection, Nightmare at 20,000 Feet, this collection is an indispensable treasure trove of terror from the New York Times bestselling author of I Am Legend and What Dreams May Come.

Unrealized Dreams

Unrealized Dreams is three screenplays by Richard Matheson which he is quite fond of but were not produced for a variety of reasons. The first script is the sequel to The Incredible Shrinking Man. The second script a first draft with handwritten changes on each page, Appointment in Zahrain, was expressly written for Clark Gable. The actor became ill on the set of the film he was working on prior to Zahrain and soon passed away. The third script has all of the actors from Matheson’s acclaimed Comedy of Terrors returning to play other parts in another horror/comedy. As Matheson mentions in his introduction to Unrealized Dreams, after he completed the script, the actors began passing away one by one, with Vincent Price being the last. The book will be edited by Dennis Etchison. Etchison’s short stories have appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies since 1961, and in several collections. He is also an editor Cutting Edge, MetaHorror, Masters of Darkness, The Museum of Horrors, novelist Darkside, California Gothic, Double Edge, screenwriter and the winner of five British Fantasy and World Fantasy Awards. He will be signing the book, along with Matheson. The scripts will be reproduced in an oversized 8 1/2 x 11 format just as Matheson typed them including all handwritten changes.

The Box

What if you were told that you could make a fortune just by pushing a button on a box? But pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world…
someone you don t know. Would you still push the button?

Button, Button,’ Richard Matheson’s chilling tale of greed and temptation, is now the basis of The Box, the new film from the director of Donnie Darko. In addition, this outstanding collection also contains many other unforgettable stories by Matheson, the award winning author of I Am Legend and What Dreams May Come.

‘The inventive plots and spare but convincing portraits of ordinary men and women caught up in forces beyond their control demonstrate why Stephen King has called Matheson his most significant influence.
Publishers Weekly

Visions Deferred

While there have been 3 adaptations of Richard Matheson’s acclaimed I AM LEGEND, NONE have been faithful to Matheson’s novel. Matheson DID write a script for I AM LEGEND and sold it to Hammer Films. However both the US and British Censor Boards had objections to the script. Matheson was sent a 2 page letter of changes that were demanded the letter appears in the book. Both Matheson and Hammer films declined to make these changes. To this date the script has not been used as the basis for any of the filmed adaptations. Here for the first time is Matheson’s censored script. Also included are his scripts for ‘The Distributor’ and ‘Sweethearts and Horrors’

Steel and Other Stories

Imagine a future in which the sport of boxing has gone high tech. Human boxers have been replaced by massive humanoid robots. And former champions of flesh and blood are obsolete…
. Richard Matheson’s classic short story is now the basis for Real Steel, a gritty, white knuckle film starring Hugh Jackman. But Steel, which was previously filmed as a powerful episode of the original Twilight Zone television series, is just one of over a dozen unforgettable tales in this outstanding collection, which includes two new stories that have never appeared in any previous Matheson collection. Also featured is a bizarre satirical fantasy, The Splendid Source, that was turned into an episode of The Family Guy. Richard Matheson was recently inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame. Steel demonstrates once again the full range of his legendary imagination.

Road Rage (With: Stephen King,Joe Hill)

Road Rage unites Richard Matheson’s classic Duel and the contemporary work it inspired two power packed short stories by three of the genre’s most acclaimed authors. Duel, an unforgettable tale about a driver menaced by a semi truck, was the source for Stephen Spielberg’s acclaimed first film of the same name. Throttle, by Stephen King and Joe Hill, is a duel of a different kind, pitting a faceless trucker against a tribe of motorcycle outlaws, in the simmering Nevada desert. Their battle is fought out on twenty miles of the most lonely road in the country, a place where the only thing worse than not knowing what you’re up against, is slowing down…

Completely Doomed

This special collection hearkens back to the best creepy, eerie horror comics of yesteryear, only these feature the added bonus of being adapted from stories by horror literature legends Robert Bloch, Richard Matheson, David J. Schow and Paul F. Wilson by comics luminaries like Ashley Wood, Ted McKeever and many more. Completely Doomed features the Eisner nominated ‘Blood Son’ by Wood and Chris Ryall, and 15 other adapted tales of wretched excess and predestined downfall, all presided over by the macabre madame, Ms. Doomed.

The Path

Richard Matheson’s bestselling novel, What Dreams May Come, the basis for the hit movie starring Robin Williams, touched numerous readers with its convincing portrait of life after death, based on years of research and personal reflection. Like that earlier book, The Path is a work of inspirational fiction that comes straight from Matheson’s own deeply held beliefs about spirituality and true nature of existence. The story of one man’s encounter with an enigmatic stranger who imparts to him ten lessons about the true realityof the soul; The Path is not so much a novel as a philosophical dialogue about life and the afterlife. Everyone who read What Dreams May Come and wants to know more about Matheson’s personal philosophy should take a walk along…
The Path.

Kiss the Whip

Four acclaimed purveyors of fantastic fiction collide in a pulp inferno of black magic, torture, and sexual depravity: Robert Bloch’s The Skull of the Marquis de Sade, Jean Paul Denard’s Jacqueline, Daughter of the Marquis de Sade, Richard Matheson’s De Sade novelized by Henry Clement, and Jeremy Reed’s When the Whip Comes Down. All four works are dark tributes to the Marquis de Sade, whose literary legacy and reputation continue to inspire writers and filmmakers to this day.

Masques V

This is the last book in the acclaimed Masques series, edited by Jerry Williamson. Before Williamson fell ill he assembled 90 of the contents. Gary Braunbeck is co editing Masques V. A number of authors have provided stories as a tribute to Jerry, including Ray Bradbury, Richard Matheson, Ray Garton, Poppy Z. Brite, Jack Ketchum, Richard Christian Matheson, William Nolan, Tom Monteleone, Gary Braunbeck and Barry Hoffman. Clive Barker is providing the cover art and signing all editions, along with a fronticepiece for the Lettered edition only which must be ordered through Gauntlet Press directly. The Lettered edition has a second, alternate version of Ray Bradbury’s story, along with a hand written note telling the origin of the story. Richard Christian Matheson also provides three early drafts of his story with handwritten corrections. Matheson and Bradbury are signing only the Lettered edition, and Jerry Williamson signed both the Numbered and the Lettered before he passed away. Masques V was a labor of love for Jerry Williamson, who died on December 8th, 2005. As his health began to fail him, he was overwhelmed by well known authors who without hesitation submitted stories as a tribute to Jerry. In a note to those whose work will appear in Masques V co editor Gary Braunbeck stated, ‘I think this will serve as a fine testament to Jerry’s memory.’
