Ted Staunton Books Overview

Morgan Makes Magic

On the first day of the new year at Morgan’s new school, he wears new everything even new underwear. He might as well have a sign on his forehead that says ‘New Kid.’ So he needs new friends above all, but starts the day by crossing Aldeen Hummel, the Godzilla of Grade Three. To impress his new schoolmates Morgan stretches the truth, telling them he’s an auto mechanic, a rock’n’roll drummer, a juggler, a magician. He fools Aldeen with a magic trick, and suddenly the other kids want to see him perform all his ‘talents,’ all at once. Finally Morgan has to tell the truth to them all, starting with Aldeen Hummel. Morgan Makes Magic is a story about the difficulty of adapting to new situations, and how friends old and new can make it easier.

Morgan and the Money

All the kids in Morgan’s class are itching to go to the zoo all except Aldeen Hummel, the Godzilla of Grade Three. Aldeen didn’t bring her eight dollars, and now she’s not allowed to go. When Morgan sees Aldeen looking in the teacher’s desk, he suspects there’s going to be trouble. And when she shows up later with money for the trip, he knows it. Their teacher finds eight dollars missing from the trip money, and says nobody gets to go until it’s returned. Morgan is sure he knows who took it, but wonders whether he should tell or not. When the money finally turns up Morgan finds he has jumped to conclusions, and that there’s more to Aldeen Hummel than meets the eye. Morgan and the Money is the story of a boy who struggles with the truth, and finds that things aren’t always what they seem to be.

Morgan’s Secret

Morgan’s not a blabbermouth. He does like to talk almost as much as he likes to eat, and he does stretch the truth sometimes, but when his best friend Charlie tells him he likes a girl, his secret’s safe with Morgan. Until Aldeen Hummel, the Godzilla of Grade Three, comes along. Morgan’s afraid of Aldeen adults are afraid of Aldeen so when she leans on him, Morgan blabs. When she learns he’s told her a secret, Aldeen figures she owns Morgan, and lets him know it. Soon, however, they find the secret they share brings them together more than it sets them apart. Morgan’s Secret is a story about the difficulties of keeping secrets, and the rewards of telling the truth.

Great Play, Morgan!

Morgan’s keen to play when he signs up for the soccer team but unfortunately so is Aldeen Hummel, the Godzilla of Grade Three. Morgan takes it easy on the field, but Aldeen is a maniac, playing hard and dirty and getting way too many penalties. To make matters worse, the whole team blames Morgan when they lose. Morgan wants to quit, but if he does the team won’t have enough players for the big tournament. As the play offs near, however, both Morgan and Aldeen find unexpected ways to help the team triumph. Great Play, Morgan is a hilarious story about perseverance against great odds.

Morgan’s Birthday

Morgan is looking forward to having the best birthday party he has ever had and he is inviting everyone even, in a rash moment, Aldeen Hummel, the Godzilla of Grade Three. By the time the big day arrives, many of the guests have declined because of Aldeen. But Morgan’s parents go ahead with the party. There are presents and party games, and Aldeen, of all people, brings in the cake with all its candles…
In this new book Morgan is his usual loveable self, trying to have things work out just right, and trying not to have Aldeen upset the apple cart of his hopes and dreams. Ted Staunton lives in Port Hope, Ontario. This is the 6th book in the Morgan series.

Morgan’ s Pet Plot

When Morgan meets his friend Charlie’s golden retriever pup, he is a little envious and a little allergic. But he would really like a pet. Finally Morgan and his parents come home with an albino rat. Morgan doesn’t really like Snowdrop, but his pesky classmate Aldeen Hummel the Godzilla of Grade Three gets along famously with it. She takes over and helps Morgan prepare Snowdrop for the pet show at school. Morgan decides he’ll give the rat to Aldeen after the show, but things don’t work out exactly as planned…
Morgan’s Pet Plot is a funny and touching story that shows how the things we value most are sometimes found where we least expect them.

Morgan Makes a Splash

When Morgan starts swimming lessons, he has lots of problems to deal with. There is the towel flicking and the slimy floor in the change room. There’s the jiggles in his tummy he needs to cover up with his t shirt and the scary possibility that his suit will drop to his knees when he jumps in. Worst of all, Aldeen Hummell, the Godzilla of Grade Three, has told him she will turn him into cat food if he doesn’t cover for her while she plays hooky. Once again Morgan finds himself dragged into Aldeen’s plans. But by playing the clown, and facing his own fears, he thinks he can free himself from her clasp by helping her get her badge. Morgan Makes a Splash is a hilarious story about gathering courage to cope with difficult situations.

Morgan Makes a Deal

Having a paper route is a lot more work than Morgan cares to take on. His parents helped him into it so he would have some money for a video game that he wants. Things get easier when he persuades Charlie to do some of the delivery, in exchange for copying Morgan’s math homework. Aldeen, who has been coming along on the route, wants in on the same deal. Things go smoothly until time comes for a math test. Morgan panics. He can’t help them in the test. Then his mother insists that he share the earnings with his two helpers. He wants to get out of the deal but when he gets a lower mark on the math test than his friends, the tables are turned. In this delightful new addition to the well loved Morgan series, young readers will get a look at the fun and the trials of having a paper route.

Super Move, Morgan!

Morgan has to spend all of one Saturday with Aldeen Hummel, the Godzilla of Grade Three, so they can make a log cabin for their project. Morgan is upset because he is sure she has taken his Commander Crunch action figure and hidden it from him. Once he sneaks into her room to get it, then he has to deal with the reality that he has taken something that isn’t his. In this latest book in the series, Morgan encounters several awkward situations and has to figure out how to come out unscathed.

Campfire Morgan

Morgan’s not a great camper. But that’s not going to stop him from bragging to his friends about his family’s upcoming camping trip. Unfortunately, Aldeen Hummel thinks camping sounds great, and she tricks Morgan and his family into taking her along. Morgan tries to scare Aldeen around the campfire, but Aldeen isn’t the only one who is scared.

Pucker Up, Morgan!

Morgan is delighted to have the lead role in The Frog Prince even if he has to kiss Aldeen, the Godzilla of Grade Three, to turn into a prince. They both agree smooching is gross. Despite Aldeen’s threats and Morgan’s overreacting they manage to create an unexpected twist to the play. Morgan discovers that teamwork makes a better performance.

Daredevil Morgan

Morgan’s best friend Charlie urges him to try the GraviTwirl ride at the Fall Fair. But Morgan is focused on the huge contender he has grown for the Perfect Pumpkin contest. That is, until Aldeen Hummel, the Godzilla of Grade Three, drops it!

Morgan challenges Aldeen to bumper car wars. Aldeen dares him to go on the Asteroid Belt ride. Will Morgan be brave enough to try? And will Morgan win the Best Pumpkin Pie contest with the remains of his squished squash?

But Sam’s also up to his ears in other worries: how to win the annual Hope Springs a Leak river race and how to get the town’s only genuine Maple Leafs sweater before his sister snags it for her boyfriend. A rollicking tale of small town life.

Sounding Off

By the time it’s all over, Nick realizes that, despite all the advantages Lindsey seems to have, he may have a few blessings of his own.

The Monkey Mountain Monster

To complicate matters, there’s a mysterious monster, known as the Ooly Gooly, roaming through Hope Springs. On a dare, Lindsey agrees that she will sleep out in her backyard one night but when she finds out that Caitlin won’t join her, she realizes she really is all on her own. An unexpected volunteer agrees to join Lindsey, and when the monster shows up, the kids can’t contain themselves. Chaos and panic set in with lively results.

Forgive Us Our Travises

Travis Bee is the youngest of three sons of Reverend Bee, one of the town’s most respected citizens. There are no lengths to which Travis won’t go to attract attention to himself whether it’s spraying the Sunday morning congregation with his water bottle, playing up his notorious hyena laugh, stealing other kids’ pencils, clowning around during church choir practice or, most of all, teasing Mary Beth Harvey. Of course, Travis gets his comeuppance before long: he’s chosen to sing the solo during the dedication service for the renovated church building, a prospect that both terrifies and pleases him. This time, however, he’ll have to be on his best behavior, which means he’s a perfect target for Mary Beth’s revenge.
