Tanya Huff Books Overview

Valor’s Choice

In the distant future, humans and several other races have been granted membership in the Confederation at a price. They must act as soldier/protectors of the far more civilized races who have long since turned away from war.

The Better Part of Valor

Telling a two star general what she really thought of him was the mistake Staff Sergeant Torin Kerr made with General Morris. But as a battle hardened professional, she took pride in doing her job and getting her troops back alive. So after she’d saved the mission to bring the Silsviss into the Confederation instead of losing them and their world to the enemy known only as the Others she let the general know exactly how she felt. And Torin’s reward or punishment was to be separated from her platoon and sent off on what might well prove an even more perilous assignment. She was commandeered to protect a scientific expedition to a newly discovered and seemingly derelict spaceship of truly epic proportions. And Confederation politics had saddled her with a commanding officer who might prove more of a menace to the mission’s success than anything they encountered. Only time would tell if the ship was what it appeared to be or a trap created by the Others or the work of an as yet unknown alien race with an agenda that could prove all too hostile to other life forms.

The Heart of Valor

Gunnery Sergeant Torin Kerr was a Confederation Marine’s marine. She’d survived more deadly encounters and kept more of her officers and enlistees alive than anyone in the Corps, and she was determined to keep that record intact. But since her last mission, she’d been sidelined into endless briefings and debriefings with no end in sight. So, of course, she’d jumped at the chance to go to Crucible the Marine Corps training planet as a temporary aide to Major Svensson. The major had been reduced to little more than a brain and a spinal cord in his last combat, and he and his doctor were anxious to field test his newly regrown body. It should have been an easy twenty day run. After all, Crucible was only set up to simulate battle situations so that recruits could be trained safely. But they were barely on planet when someone started blasting the training scenarios to smithereens. Suddenly, Kerr found herself not only responsible for the major and his doctor but caught in a desperate fight to keep a platoon of Marine recruits alive until someone could discover what was happening on Crucible.

Valor’s Trial

The rousing military adventure Locus continues with a brand new Valor novel. Gunnery Sergeant Torin Kerr is a Confederation Marine’s marine. She s survived more deadly encounters and kept more of her officers and enlistees alive than anyone in the Corps. Unexpectedly pulled from battle, Torin finds herself in an underground POW camp that shouldn t exist, where her fellow marine prisoners seem to have lost all will to escape. Now, Torin must fight her way not only out of the prison but also past the growing compulsion to sit down and give up not realizing that her escape could mean the end of the war

The Truth of Valor

The ‘rousing military adventure’Locus continues with a brand new Valor novel. Former Marine Gunnery Sergeant Torin Kerr is attempting to build a new life with salvage operator Craig Ryder on his ship, the Promise. Turns out civilian life is a lot rougher than she’d imagined salvage operators are losing both cargo and lives to pirates. And when they attack the Promise, Craig is taken prisoner and Torin is left for dead. When Torin finds out why the pirates needed Craig, she calls in the Marines to get him back and to stop the pirates from changing the balance of power in known space.

I, Strahd (By:P.N. Elrod)

Some of the parchment pages were the color of cream, thick and substantial, made to last many, many lifetimes. Other pages were thin and desiccated, positively yellow from age, and crackled alarmingly as Van Richten turned them over. There were no ornate illuminations, no fussy borders, only lines of plain text in hard black ink. The flowing handwriting was a bit difficult to follow at first; the writer’s style of calligraphy had not been in common use for three hundred years. No table of contents, but from the dates it looked to be some kind of history. He turned to the first page and read:I, Strahd, Lord of Barovia, well aware certain events of my reign have been desperately misunderstood by those who are better at garbling history than recording it, hereby set down an exact record of those events, that the truth may at last be known…
. He caught his breath. By all the good gods, a personal journal?

Spectre of the Black Rose (By:Voronica Whitney-Robinson,James Lowder)

In this chilling sequel to the best selling Knight of the Black Rose, factions vie for control of Sithicus as Lord Soth darklord and former knight from the Dragonlance world fights to keep his reign from crumbling. Has Kitiara finally returned to Soth, or is this another spectre from the death knight’s tragic past?

Heaven’s Bones (By:Samantha Henderson)

Love and death walk hand in hand…

Dr. Sebastian Robarts is a man paralyzed by the fate of his adored wife, dead in childbirth, their only child with her. He searches for a way to build angels from women, a pastime known to Scotland Yard as murder. Robarts meets the Vistani seer named Trueblood, who becomes his assistant and leads him to the Antebellum era domain of Riverbend, controlled by the sad*istic Dr. Weldon, to create angels, unfettered by conventional morality, or even rules. When the murderer returns to earth, it is the task of a Vistani policeman and a woman with a strange connection to Robarts to stop him. If he can be stopped.

Heaven’s Bones skillfully blends horror and steampunk and classic Victorian literary style into something exotic and fascinating.

The War Against Azalin (By:P.N. Elrod)

The answers are to be found in a wizard who’s come to Earth from another dangerous dimension…

Blood Price

It began with blood and death. And Vicki Nelson, PI was at the scene. The victim had been brutally, inhumanly opened up. Messy work. She’d had to cover the corpse with her coat. It had sort of made her feel involved. Now Vicki is caught up in the deadly pursuit of a mass murderer with an inhuman appetite for mayhem and destruction. And her advisor on the case is doing nothing to dampen her growing sense of foreboding. But then, with a being of unspeakable evil stalking the city, only Vicki Nelson would ally herself to Henry Fitzroy, the illegitimate child of Henry VIII and a five hundred year old vampire.

Blood Trail

When a pack of werewolves is discovered on a London, Ontario, farm, Henry Fitzroy, a Toronto based vampire and writer of romance novels, calls upon private investigator Vicki Nelson to help him trace the trail of destruction to the killers.

Blood Lines

Fearing for his sanity, 450 year old vampire Henry Fitzroy calls upon his sometime lover and comrade, ex cop Vicki Nelson, whose friend and former partner is in the middle of a murder investigation involving a museum mummy.

Blood Pact

It began, as it so often did, with a body. Only this time death has struck close to home for Vicki Nelson, PI. Her mother is the victim. And what at first seems no more than a tragic natural death is about to become the most terrifying case of her career. For Vicki and her sometime lover, the vampire Henry Fitzroy, have discovered something suspicious in her mother’s demise. Vicki feels unable to deal with the grief until she’s investigated what happened. But she soon discovers that it’s not just memories that can be difficult to lay to rest.

Blood Debt

It began with a ghost in his bedroom. A tormented soul hungry for vengeance. The sort of nocturnal visitation that even a five hundred year old vampire like Henry Fitzroy found tiresome. It would lead Vicki Nelson, PI into her most deadly investigation yet. The wraith is determined that Henry and Vicki track down its killer and is prepared to use a little persuasion by way of the innocent inhabitants of Toronto to ensure their support. Forced to investigate, Vicki discovers a host of souls in desperate torment and evidence to suggest that trailing the killer will only lead to further deaths starting with her own.

Blood Bank

Originally collected in one volume as half of the omnibus edition of The Blood Books: Volume Three, all of Tanya Huff’s short stories featuring homicide cop turned P.I. Vicki Nelson, her partner Mike Celluci, and vampire Henry Fitzroy are now being released in a separate edition to tie in with the Lifetime television series, Blood Ties.
