Heather Vogel Frederick Books Overview

The Voyage of Patience Goodspeed

Can Patience rescue the Morning Star’s crew?

Precocious Patience Goodspeed, almost thirteen, hates to leave Nantucket and her treasured math tutor for a three year whaling voyage. Patience’s father, Isaiah Goodspeed, runs a tight ship. Between endless kitchen duty and run ins with the motley crew, she hardly has time to learn navigation. But smooth sailing gives way to a rocky course: Soon suspicious mates come aboard and maroon Patience’s father and brother on a deserted island. And Patience is faced with a problem that will take more than just brains to solve.

The Education of Patience Goodspeed

When the Morning Star sets sail on the Pacific in 1836, fourteen year old Patience Goodspeed can’t wait to be the assistant navigator. But when danger strikes, Captain Goodspeed whisks his children, Patience and Tad, and their aunt Anne off to a boarding school in Hawaii until the ship returns. Here Reverend Wiggins, the headmaster, thinks girls should study sewing instead of math. Then there’s more trouble in paradise: Fanny Starbuck, a widow from Nantucket, is the silliest and frilliest etiquette teacher ever. And Patience discovers that Fanny’s been writing love letters to the ship; fetching a proposal from Papa, for sure! Sometimes growing up on dry land can be even rockier than a voyage on the sea, but Patience is about to learn that true friendship will sail her through it.

The Black Paw

‘DOGBONES! DOGBONES! DOGBONES!’

For Oz Levinson, life is always the same. No matter what school he goes to, it’s always sharks — bullies — versus everyone else. What would Oz’s hero, James Bond, aka 007, do? He would make mincemeat of the sharks. But Oz is no 007 — more like double-o-lard.

Then Oz meets Glory Mouse, a skateboarding private eye trying to take down the evil rat leader, Roquefort Dupont, and Oz is swept into a exciting world of espionage. But this is no make-believe movie. It’s real life: mice vs. rats, kids vs. bullies, good vs. evil.

And all the power lies in one paw.

For Your Paws Only

THE SPY MICE ARE BACK! Just when Glory Mouse, private eye, and Oz Levinson, fifth grade sleuth, think the evil rats have lost, it’s time to get back to the race…
. On a trip to New York City, Oz, Glory, and the spy gang discover that the Big Apple is swarming with rats…
rats who can READ! And if they don’t think fast, Glory will be mousemeat pie just in time for the rat’s feast. Join the battle of good vs. evil where it’s time for good to pump up the volume once and for all!

Goldwhiskers

Winter break is off to an exciting start with Oz and D. B. jetting off to London for Oz’s mom s opera premiere. And Glory Goldenleaf, private eye, comes along for a pleasure trip.

But this jolly holiday winds up being anything but when Goldwhiskers, the richest rat in the entire world, is discovered enslaving the orphan mice of Great Britain to do his thievery.

And when the Crown Jewels are stolen, Oz, D. B., and Glory are in store for a James Bond meets Scotland Yard kind of mission?the likes of which the spy world has never seen!

The Mother-Daughter Book Club

The book club is about to get a makeover…

Even if Megan would rather be at the mall, Cassidy is late for hockey practice, Emma’s already read every book in existence, and Jess is missing her mother too much to care, the new book club is scheduled to meet every month. But what begins as a mom imposed ritual of reading Little Women soon helps four unlikely friends navigate the drama of middle school. From stolen journals, to secret crushes, to a fashion fiasco first dance, the girls are up to their Wellie boots in drama. They can’t help but wonder: What would Jo March do? Acclaimed author Heather Vogel Frederick will delight daughters of all ages in a novel about the fabulousness of fiction, family, and friendship.
