Tracy Hickman Books Overview

Citadels of the Lost

The Rhonas Empire of elves is built upon a thirst for conquest, disdain for other races, and an appetite for hedonistic self gratification. They have complete control of the Aether the mystical substance that fuels their magic. One use of this Aether is to compel total obedience of the slaves drawn from the races they have defeated. But there are legends that tell of a time when humans and other slave races were free and dragons flew the skies. And they speak of a hero who will return to lead an uprising against their masters: a human named Drakis. When Aer magic, the magic of nature itself, is wielded by Jugar, a captive dwarf, it signals the start of a rebellion straight from legend. In the ensuing chaos, the former warrior slave Drakis Sha Timuran, with a small group of slaves, flees for his life and freedom lured by a melody that conjures visions of dark wings, scales, and fire. Following the melody he alone can hear, Drakis stumbles on the truth behind the legends: the dragons are real! Can they survive the dangers of this treacherous realm and bring the truth behind the legends to the army of rebellion?

Mystic Warrior

New York Times bestselling master of fantasy Tracy Hickman and his wife, author Laura Hickman, offer the first book in a major, new, dragon laden epic fantasy. The Bronze Canticles is an expansive new saga chronicling the world altering changes that take place as three connected universes the Human world, the Goblin world, and the Faery world are slowly drawn together. In Book One, young Galen Arvad, a human with magical powers, must avoid the ritual that puts those with such talents to death. It seems that in the eyes of the community magic is a sign of lunacy, and in a yearly ritual the local ‘crazies’ are offered up to the Dragon Priests. Having successfully dodged the ‘elections’ for many years, Galen is suddenly captured and hauled away with others that are deemed ‘insane.’ Now, as Galen’s wife, Berkita, and his friend, Cephas the dwarf, set off to rescue him, Galen learns of the fate that awaits him…
a fate far worse than even his own death.

Mystic Quest

Thrice upon a time, three worlds were in peril. Twenty three years have passed since Galen Arvad first exposed the deep magic. Now that magic brings tragedy and darkness to the lives of all who wield it in the world. Galen and his clans suffer an endless war in the realm of the dragonkings, the fairies contend with a gruesome kingdom of the undead, and in the realm of the reanimated, rusting titans, a tyrant goblin’s lust for conquest goes unchecked. A new generation of heroes will set out on separate, life altering journeys. Whether in search of freedom or atonement, each will find their redemption may be beyond the power of magic for their darkest secrets and greatest dangers are those they bring with them.

Mystic Empire

Eighty Years have passed since the Mystics founded Calsandria, and now their nation is mired in politics and bloodlines. A woman with no magic, Theona Conlan leads the desperate search for the missing Prince of House Arvad. In the faery realm, Dwynwyn learns that slave creatures are mastering a magic that threatens the fragile peace between the faeries and their enemies. And while the goblin Lunid builds a device to reach across worlds, her masters plot to use it for their own dark ends. But unknown to them all, the gates between realities are about to burst open and plunge humans, faeries, and goblins into a war that can be won only with an undiscovered magic…
One that will unite or destroy three worlds.

Forging the Darksword

/Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman In the enchanted realm of Merilon, magic is life. Born without magical abilities, Joram is left for dead but grows to manhood with the help of his constant vigilance and sleight of hand skills. When he meets the scholarly catalyst Saryon, the two join forces, attempting to forge the powerful magic absorbing Darksword and ov.

Doom of the Darksword

Born without magic, Joram was one of the Dead, denied the throne of Merilon. For years, he lived among outlaws, surviving by wit and sleight of hand. Now, wielding the powerful, magic absorbing Darksword, Joram retums to the enchanted Kingdom that once was his home to win revenge and claim his birthright. Here he will test Bishop Vanya and his fierce army of Duuk tsarith in a battle unlike any their world has known. Joined by the scholarly catalyst Saryon, the young mage Mosiah, and the trickster Simkin, Jorma confronts the shattering secret of his past and discovers the ancient prophecy that puts the fate of the world in his hands the hands that forged the Darksword.

Triumph of the Darksword

/Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman Joram and his wife, Gwendolyn, return from beyond the Border to reclaim their rightful place in Merilon. Rejoined by Saryon, Mosiah and Simkin, Joram must confront the evil sorcerer, Menju, and his army of Technologists in a final apocalyptic battle to fulfill the ancient prophecy of the Darksword to either save the world.

Legacy of the Darksword

It is twenty years since the once magical land of Thimhallan was shattered by the forging of the Darksword. The survivors of that catastrophe now live on Earth, bereft of magic and hope, forbidden to return home.

Only Joram remains behind on the world ravaged by his Darksword. Although the magic weapon has been destroyed and with it, Joram’s power rumors have risen that Joram has forged a second Darksword.

Now, as a merciless alien race threatens Earth with annihilation, Earth’s desperate leaders look to Joram as their only hope. But even as his old friend Saryon begins the perilous journey to seek his aid, the embittered Joram has his own plans for the weapon.

And Joram is not the only one. Soon a new menace looms, foreshadowing betrayal, enslavement, and death to humans and Thimhallans alike.

Elven Star

On steamy Pryan, never ending sunlight and plentiful rain have created a jungle so vast that humans and elves dwell high in the trees and only dwarves live anywhere near the ground. From the treetops the aristocratic elves sell weapons to the other races, whose incessant warfare sends a steady steam of profits and essential resources skyward. Now, generations of dissent and race hatred will not heal not even under the threat of annihilation at the hands of legendary Titans. Fire Sea

Abarrach, the Realm of stone. Here, on a barren world of underground caverns built around a core of molten lava, the lesser races humans, elves, and dwarves seem to have all died off. Here, too, what may well be the last remnants of the once powerful Sartan still struggle to survive. For Haplo and Alfred enemies by heritage, traveling companions by necessity Abarrach may reveal more than either dares to discover about the history of Sartan…
and the future of all their descendants. From the Paperback edition.

The Serpent Mage

After the four worlds Alfred has at last found his people on Chelstra, the realm of sea. But his travels have taught him to be cautious…
and Alfred soon realizes his caution is justified, even among his own kind. The one person Alfred can trust is, strangely, Haplo the Patryn. But Haplo’s lord has decreed all Sartan to be the enemy, and Haplo dares not go against his lord. Now the companions have arrived in a land where humans, elves, and dwarves have learned to live in peace. Unaware of an even greater threat to all the realms, it is Sartan and Patryn who will disrupt this alliance of the lesser races in their struggle to gain control of all four worlds. Only Alfred and Haplo realize that they have a much older and more powerful enemy than each other…

The Hand of Chaos

Chaos is everywhere as the Lord of the Nexus orders his servant Haplo and the human child known as Bane to further their master’s work on Arianus, the realm of air. But their one time companion Alfred has been cast into the deadly Labyrinth. And somehow the assassin Hugh the Hand has been resurrected to complete his dark mission. More important, the evil force that Haplo and Alfred discovered on Arianus has escaped. As Haplo’s doubts about his master grow deeper, he must decide whether to obey the Lord of the Nexus or betray the powerful Patryn…
and endeavor to bring peace to the universe.

Into the Labyrinth

The sixth ‘Death Gate’ novel. Alfred and Haplo enter the terrifying prison maze that has been shrouded in mystery since the beginning of the series. Accompanying them are the two assassins sent to take Haplo’s life one reformed by death and the other a woman who once won Haplo’s heart.

The Seventh Gate

The Seventh Gate is the thrilling conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Death Gate Cycle by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. In this tale of treachery, power, and heroism, Alfred, Haplo, and Marit embark on a journey of death and discovery as they seek to enter the dreaded Seventh Gate. Encountering enemies both old and new, they unleash a magic no power can control, damning themselves to an apocalypse of unimagined proportion in a final struggle between good and evil.

Dragons of the Dwarven Depths

The Companions are back in the first volume that features an untold story from the War of the Lance. The beloved heroes return: Tanis, Raistlin and Caramon, Sturm Brightblade, Tasslehoff, and Flint Fireforge. Old friends, such as Riverwind and Goldmoon and Laurana travel with them. Old enemies are here too, as the companions encounter new adventures and new dangers in the very beginning months of the War of the Lance.

This book starts with the celebration of a wedding. The companions believe they have slain the evil Dragon Highlord Verminaard. They have rescued the refugees from Pax Tharkas and taken them to a valley in the Kharolis mountains.

After they are attacked by the Dragon Armies, Tanis and Flint are sent to search for the long lost dwarven kingdom of Thorbardin, hoping to persuade the dwarves to give the refugees shelter for winter.

Each of the other companions face their own trials. Raistlin remembers that, according to tales of old, the key to Thorbardin lies in the haunted fortress known as Skullcap. The others want nothing to do with this accursed place, but Raistlin feels strangely drawn to the ruins, and he persuades a reluctant Caramon to accompany him there.

Sturm becomes obsessed with finding the legendary Hammer of Kharas, and his obsession nearly plunges the party into disaster. Riverwind, now chieftain of his tribe, is made the reluctant leader of the refugees and worries that he is not suited for the task. Tika Waylan must decide if she has the courage to undertake a perilous journey to save those she loves from certain death, while Tanis Half Elven wrestles with his faith in the newly returned gods.

It is the dwarf, Flint Fireforge, who faces the most crucial test. As the heroes race against time to save the lives of the innocents dependent on them, Flint is forced to make a difficult choice, one on which the future of mankind may rest. And the only one he can depend on for help is the happy go lucky kender, Tasslehoff Burrfoot.

For a time, it seems they have found a safe haven in the dwarven kingdom, only to discover there is no safe place anywhere in this world, as the Queen of Darkness and her dragons set the land aflame.

Dragons of the Highlord Skies

The Companions are back, and so are their enemies in the second volume of the Lost Chronicles.

Kitiara discovers that a former lover, Tanis Half elven, and his friends were responsible for the death of Highlord Verminaard. This revelation puts Kit in danger, for Emperor Ariakas hears of the connection and suspects Kit of having arranged the assassination. He orders his witch, the exotic Iolanthe, to spy on Kit, who clinches her own doom by becoming obsessed with finding Tanis, convincing Ariakas that she is indeed a traitor. But Kit is not one to take a sentence of death easily.

Kit’s rival, Laurana, begins her own journey to destiny, as she travels to Icereach with Sturm, Flint, Tasslehoff, and three Solamnic knights led by Sir Derek Crownguard. The knights are on a quest for the fabled dragon orb that will be the salvation of Solamnia. What none of them know is that they are all being led into a deadly trap laid for them by the winternorn, the dark elf wizard Feal Thas.

But it is Kitiara who faces the greatest challenge. To save herself, she vows to Takhisis that she will spend the night in Dargaard Keep, the dread castle of the death knight, Lord Soth. As she and Skie fly to challenge the death knight, Kit is well aware that in three hundred years, not one person who has ever faced Lord Soth has survived the ordeal.

The stirring climax of the War of Souls.
/Content /EditorialReview EditorialReview Source Amazon. com Review /Source Content The legendary team of Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman take to the sky on dragonback again with the final dispatch from their latest voyage to the land of Krynn in the War of Souls trilogy. In volume two, Dragons of a Lost Star, the mysterious ‘One God’ behind the irrepressible Mina’s miraculous rise to power is revealed. Yes, Dark Queen Takhisis is up to her old tricks. This time, however, she has stolen the entire planet of Krynn and hidden it away from her fellow deities. Now, she is seeking to bring the entire populace both the living and the dead under her fickle sway through Mina’s zealous proselytizing. Who will stop her dark quest? Who else? The troublemaking and time traveling kender Tasslehoff Burrfoot.

Unfortunately, with the mystery of the ‘One God’ revealed, much of the narrative impetus that made the first two books page turners is lost. However, while there isn’t much left to write about in Dragons of a Vanished Moon, the scenery is beautiful. There is an Elven exodus across the ‘plains of dust,’ stubborn Solamnic knights, cunning dragons, plotting wizards, and a full helping of Kender antics as Tasselhoff assumes the role of fly in the dark queen’s ointment. The conclusion is a textbook deus ex machina but fans should enjoy this book for what it is another chance to return to the wonderful world of Krynn with its two most competent guides at the helm.
