Diane Duane Books Overview

As the eternal malice of the Shadow rises once more to threaten Creation with destructions, Freelorn the exiled prince of Arlen stands with four others to confront this looming apocalypse. Reissue.

The Door into Sunset

Only Freelorn, the banished Prince of Arlen, can rescue the dying land of Arlen from the usurper king and the evil that threatens it, by rediscovering a missing ritual, lost at the time of Freelorn’s father’s murder. AB.

So You Want to Be a Wizard

7 compact dics. Because she insists on fighting with words instead of her fists, 13 year old Nita is regularly tormented by a gang of classmates. One day, running to escape their blows, she hides in the only safe place nearby the library. When a book about wizardry catches her eye, Nita finds the help she needs in its pages. As she moves from chapter to chapter, Nita learns more sophisticated spells. Soon, stepping through a worldgate, she enters a shadowy city swirling with vicious taxicabs and carnivorous fire plugs. What begins as a simple quest quickly becomes a struggle to keep a powerful and ominous force from passing back into Nita’s world. Ranked with the best of Madeleine L’Engle and Diana Wynne Jones, Diane Duane’s magical tale of wizardry and wisdom has become a modern fantasy classic. Christina Moore’s delightful narration captures all the excitement and danger in this thrilling fantasy adventure.

Deep Wizardry

Even though shes on vacation at the beach, young wizard Nita is still on active duty, available to assist any other wizard in distress. So when Nita meets the wizard Sreee, she is bound to promise help. Nita is needed to face the Lone Power, who is threatening life in the oceans. But although Sreee is a wizard, she is also a whale. Nita will need to shapeshift into a sea creature to join her. And when Nita learns that the final confrontation will take place 16,000 feet below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean, she begins to get uneasy. Explaining day long absences to her curious parents will be tricky, too. Diane Duanes Wizardry books are marvelous combinations of fantasy, fast paced adventure, and realism. As Nita crafts spells and prepares for what could be the ultimate sacrifice, youll be pulled into her wondrous world. Christina Moores vivid narration brings out the suspense and magic of each moment.

High Wizardry

Young wizards Nita and Kit face their most terrifying challenge yet: Nita’s little sister, Dairine. Not only is Dairine far too smart for a ten year old, she also has recenlty become a wizard, and worse yet, a wizard with almost limitless power. When Dairine’s computerized wizard’s manual glibly sends her off on her novice adventure her Ordeal Kit and Nita end up chasing her across the galaxy, trying to catch up with Dairine before she gets into trouble so deep that not even her brains can resuce her.

A Wizard Abroad

To give Nita a vacation from magic, Nita’s parents pack her off for a month long stay with her eccentric aunt in Ireland. But Ireland is even more steeped in magical doings than the United States, and Nita soon finds herself and a host of Irish wizards battling creatures from a nightmare Ireland a realm where humankind is the stuff of tales and storybooks, and where the legends and monsters of the country’s mythology are a deadly reality.

The Wizard’s Dilemma

Not everything can be fixed with magic teenage angst, for example. Young wizards Kit and Nita are having such a tough time coping with adolescence that they go their separate ways. Neither wants to call it a breakup, but that’s what it seems to be. Heartsick, they throw themselves into their magical studies. But Nita’s work is cut short by bad news: Her mother has cancer, and it looksincurable by medical or magical means. Even wizardry is powerless against cancer. The situation looks hopeless…
until Nita enters a Faustian bargain with the Lone Power, the source of all death in the universe, the one evil that Nita has dedicated her life to fighting.

A Wizard Alone

While Nita grieves over her mother’s death, Kit tackles a challenge as dangerous as it is strange: Rescue a young wizard who has vanished on his first assignment. This new wizard is unlike any other he’s autistic and he’s a magical prodigy. His power is enormous. Now Kit and his dog, Ponch, must track down the missing boy before the Lone Power finds him.

Wizard’s Holiday

Rest and relaxation that’s what Nita thinks she’s going to get when her little sister, Dairine, signs her up for a wizardly ‘cultural exchange’ program, sending Nita and her partner wizard Kit halfway across the galaxy over spring break. But nothing about wizardry not even vacation is ever quite that simple. Back home, Dairine and her dad have to cope with their side of the exchange: three young wizards who’ve just moved in and are eager to start experiencing a strange alien culture…
Earth.

Wizards at War

Nita and Kit return from their wizardly holiday, looking forward to getting back to their everyday routine. But there’s trouble brewing. A strange darkness of the mind and heart is about to befall the older wizards of the world, stealing away their power. Soon, the young wizards of Earth and many other planets find themselves forced to defend wizards and nonwizards alike against an invasion of a kind they’ve never imagined. But mere defense won’t be enough to combat the evil afoot. With their alien teammates, Nita, Kit, and Dairine must race to search worlds known and unknown for the secret weapon the Powers That Be have promised them before the minions of the sinister Lone Power find it first. And then, for the first time in millenia, the wizards must go to war…
.

A Wizard of Mars

Young wizards Kit and Nita are faced with strange events when a life form from another era emerges on Mars. Though the Martians seem friendly, they have a plan that could change the shape of more than one world. As the shadow of interplanetary war stretches over both worlds, Kit and Nita must fight to master the strange and ancient synergy binding them to Mars and its last inhabitants. If they don t succeed, the history that left Mars lifeless will repeat itself on Earth.

High Moon (With: Peter Morwood)

Omnitopia Dawn

A near future techno thriller from New York Times bestselling author Diane Duane. It’s the first quarter of the twenty first century, and ‘massively multiplayer’ on line games have been around for a couple of decades. In an increasingly wired and computer friendly world they’ve become a form of entertainment so popular they’re giving television and films a run for the money. And the most popular gaming universe of all is Omnitopia, created by genius programmer Dev Logan. For millions of people around the world, Omnitopia is an obsession, a passionate pastime, almost a way of life. Omnitopia is a virtual place where dreams come true players can create their own universes within the game’s structure, and participate in the profits if their piece of the universe is a hit. Ten million players routinely play in Omnitopia, and at any given time, nearly a million of them are on line, living in a world more real to them then their own. Worldwide, Omnitopia is now as much a culture as a game. Participants can become involved in it in a hundred different ways. Some game as if their lives depended on it, spending thousands of hours, or thousands of dollars, or both, on quests in search of ‘game glory’ among their fellow players. Some game only to acquire sufficient in game ‘value’ to become entitled to become subcreators themselves, able to build new levels and start raking in the so called ‘one percent of infinity’ which is the leveler’s share of the profits. But there are also people who don’t game at all, preferring to use the massive platform simply to explore its worlds, or to interact with other participants. Some people do nothing but design on line weapons and other items for Omnitopia gamers, and sell them or act as brokers, buying and selling game artifacts to order. Some subcreators do the same kind of design and creation, but for tailored Microcosms or slices of them: these are the ‘unreal estate’ dealers. Some players speculate in game ‘gold’ on the success or popularity of Microcosms, rather than actually playing in them. And of course there are thieves and swindlers, cheaters who live to find the loophole in the game that will outside it in the real world. Now Dev and his people are preparing to rollout a major new expansion to the Omnitopia system. And even as players, staff, the media, and the heavy hitters on the world financial scene wait eagerly for this fast approaching and momentous event, there are others preparing to play a very different game one that is meant to strike at the heart of Omnitopia and bring the entire system crashing down…

With time running out, Data must find a way to save his crewmates or watch as two worlds are destroyed.

Eighty years ago, bodiless entities brought a plague of violence and bloodshed to the planet Vulcan. The nightmare ended only when the entities were trapped inside special containers. Unless the entities can be stopped once more, they will spread their madness throughout the entire federation.

Diplomatic Implausibility (By:Keith R.A. DeCandido)

200 YEARS AGO: The expanding Klingon Empire found a frozen world rich in deposits of the mineral topaline. They named the planet taD Klingon for ‘frozen’ and they called the people jeghpu’wI’ conquered. FOUR YEARS AGO: The Klingon Empire invaded Cardassia, breaching the Khitomer Accords and causing a break with the Federation. On taD, depleted Klingon forces were overthrown in a small coup d’ tat, and the victorious rebels took advantage of the disruption to appeal for recognition from the Federation. NOW: The Klingons have returned to taD and re established their control. But the stubborn rebels insist on Federation recognition. A solution to the diplomatic impasse must be found, a task that falls to the Federation’s new ambassador to the Klingon Empire Worf. Worf thinks of himself as a fighter, not a negotiator, but the Federation disagrees. Now, for the sake of the Federation and the Empire, a Klingon warrior must weave a fragile peace out of a situation ripe for war!

My Enemy, My Ally

Ael t’Rllaillieu is a noble and dangerous Romulan commander. But when the Romulans kidnap Vulcans, intending to harness their mind power through genetic experimentation, Ael decides on treason. Captain Kirk, her old enemy, joins her in a secret pact to destroy the research labaratory and free the captive Vulcans. When the Romulans discover their plan, the Neutral Zone seethes with schemes and counter schemes, sabotage, and war!

The Romulan Way (With: Peter Morwood)

They are a race of warriors, a noble people to whom honor is all. They are cousin to the Vulcan, ally to the Klingon, and Starfleet’s most feared and cunning adversary. They are the Romulans, and for eight years, Federation Agent Terise LoBrutto has hidden in their midst. Now the presence of a captured Starfleet officer forces her to make a fateful choice between exposure and the chance to escape: maintain her cover or save the life of Dr. Leonard McCoy? Here, in a startlingly different adventure, is the truth behind one of the most fascinating alien races ever created in ‘Star Trek’ the Romulans.

Swordhunt

The sword was the ultimate symbol of Romulan power, tradition, and pride. It lay in the Senate Chamber of the Romulan Star Empire, revered and untouched for centuries, until the day Dr. Leonard McCoy was tried for treason and both were stolen during a daring attack on Romulus itself.

Now, to avenge that insult and save face in the eyes of their deadly enemies, the Empire must recover the sword at any cost. Their envoys to the Federation demand the return of the sword and the extradition of the Romulan renegades who aided the Starship Enterprise in McCoy’s escape. If diplomacy fails, the Romulans will trap the Klingons and the Federation in open war.

In such dangerous times, the Starship Enterprise is assigned the most valuable and volatile element of all: the fugitive Ael, her stolen Bird of Prey Bloodwing, and the sword they carry. Ael will undoubtedly attempt to use ship and sword to foil her enemies and play her hand in the dangerous game that she’s begun. But she will do it all under the watchful eyes of James T. Kirk, the Federation starship captain who knows her dangerously well…

Honor Blade

At last, the United Federation of Planets and the Romulan Star Empire have agreed to meet on neutral ground to attempt to resolve the tangle of intrigue and conspiracy that began with the hijacking of the U.S.S. Intrepid many years ago but the meeting may be as dangerous as the war they hope to avoid.

As a show of good faith, the crew of the legendary Starship Enterprise has been ordered to attend the talks. In their informal charge is Romulan renegade Ael, the wanted fugitive who, with Kirk, served as a catalyst of the current troubles. Kirk must represent the interests of the Federation first and foremost, but the best approach to an agreement remains muddled in the ever shifting Romulan order.

And the visiting Romulan party is as fractious and divided as their troubled world. Among the Romulan nobles in attendance are the hero and popular Senator Arrhae, who secretly helped rescue Dr. Leonard McCoy from a Romulan execution, and the very men and women who put McCoy on trial for treason and tried to carry out the sentence.

As Kirk and crew attempt to renegotiate a delicate peace, and Romulans attempt to restore their tarnished honor, it becomes increasingly apparent that their only course of action is to prepare for war!

The Empty Chair

At last, the United Federation of Planets and the Romulan Star Empire have agreed to meet on neutral ground in order to resolve the tangle of intrigue and conspiracy that began many years ago with the hijacking of the USS Intrepid. As a show of good faith, the crew of the legendary starship USS Enterprise has been ordered to attend the talks. In their informal charge is the Romulan renegade Ael, the wanted fugitive who, along with Captain James T. Kirk, served as the catalyst of the present troubles. On the other side, the visiting Romulan party is as fractious and disunited as their own divided world. As Kirk and his crew attempt to negotiate a delicate peace and the Romulans attempt to restore their tarnished honour, it becomes increasingly apparent that their only course of action is to prepare for the war that both sides hoped to avoid…

The Devil’s Heart (By:)

The Devil’s Heart is a legendary object of unsurpassed power and mystery. Worlds that believe in magic consider it Darkness’s mightiest talisman; and worlds of science consider it a lost artifact of some ancient and forgotten race. But to all, the location of this fabled object has remained a mystery, until now. An isolated archaeological outpost has suddenly stopped responding to repeated requests for information. Sent to discover why, the U.S.S. EnterpriseTM crew finds a devastated outpost and a dying scientist, whose last words fall on disbelieving ears: the Devil’s Heart has been found. Q-Squared (By:Peter David)

In all of his travels Captain Jean Luc Picard has never faced an opponent more powerful that Q, a being from another continuum that Picard encountered on his very first mission as Captain of the Starship Enterprise . In the years since, Q has returned again and again to harass Picard and his crew. Sometimes dangerous, sometimes merely obnoxious, Q has always been mysterious and seemingly all powerful. But this time, when Q appears, he comes to Picard for help. Apparently another member of the Q continuum has tapped into an awesome power source that makes this being more powerful than the combined might of the entire Q continuum. This renegade Q is named Trelane also known as the Squire of Gothos, who Captain Kirk and his crew first encountered over one hundred years ago. Q explains that, armed with this incredible power, Trelane has become unspeakably dangerous. Now Picard must get involved in an awesome struggle between super beings. And this time the stakes are not just Picard’s ship, or the galaxy, or even the universe this time the stakes are all of creation…

Crossover (By:Michael Jan Friedman)

Continuing the mission he began in ‘Unification,’ Starfleet Ambassador Spock endeavors to impart the logic of the Vulcan way to a small band of Romulans eager to unite the Romulan Empire and the planet Vulcan. But unbeknownst to them, a Romulan spy has joined the ranks disguised as a Unification sympathizer. Deceived by this traitor, Spock and his students are taken hostage.

Fearful that Spock’s knowledge of Federation security will fall into enemy hands, Starfleet dispatches its best ship, the U.S.S. EnterpriseTM 1701-D, and most respected captain, Jean-Luc Picard, to secure the hostages’ release. Spock’s former shipmate from the original Starship EnterpriseTM, Ambassador McCoy — over one hundred forty years old, but still as feisty as ever — is brought in to consult on the negotiations.

Picard must now find a way to preserve the Federation’s security and prevent a war while treading a mindfield of danger and deadly Romulan politics that threaten his ship, his crew, and the Federation he serves.

Kahless (By:Michael Jan Friedman)

For the last fifteen hundred years, the KlingonsTM have revered him as the first Klingon emperor, the legendary warrior who united their people and taught them the meaning of honor. Myths and fables have grown around the memory of Kahless, but the truth of his incredible life has remained a mystery…
until now. A clone of the original Kahless now holds the title of emperor. He thinks he knows all there is to know about his mighty ancestor, until the discovery of an ancient scroll throws the ancient stories into doubt and threatens to tear the Klingon Empire apart. Surrounded by treachery and rumors of revolt, he can trust no one except Captain Jean Luc Picard and Lieutenant Worf of the ‘U.S.S. EnterpriseTM. The past collides with the present as the true story of the historical Kahless sparks a battle for control of the entire Klingon Empire. In defiance of Starfleet Command, he will take Starfleet’s newest, strongest starship and strike at the heart of the newly aggressive Klingon Empire. Captain Picard’s negotiations proceed smoothly until he discovers that a hate crazed Klingon commander Captain Bateson’s archenemy from ninety years ago has taken the ‘Enterprise’ from Bateson and launched a vicious attack on Cardassia Prime. Imzadi II: Triangle (By:Peter David)

Even in the 24th century, three is definitely a crowd. Imzadi: to the people of the planet Betazed, including Counselor Deanna Troi of the Starship Enterprise , it means ‘beloved’ and denotes a special closeness that can never be truly broken. Or can it? In his acclaimed earlier novel, Imzadi, bestselling author Peter David explored the special bond between Deanna Troi and Commander William T. Riker. It revealed new facets of their long and intimate relationship and put that bond to its ultimate test in a powerful and unforgettable story that remains one of the most popular Star Trek adventures ever published. Imzadi was a New York Times bestseller in both hardcover and paperback. Now David examines the heart of Deanna Troi from an altogether different perspective, as he reveals for the first time the full story of Troi’s troubled romance with Lieutenant Commander Worf. At first glance, they cannot be more different. She is an empath, gentle and acutely sensitive to the needs and feelings of others. He is a fierce Klingon warrior, dedicated to a harsh and warlike code of honor. Brought together, however, by a common need to care for Alexander, Worf’s troubled, motherless son, they discover hidden reserves of courage and compassion within each other. Soon mutual respect leads to much stronger emotions as they embark on an unexpected courtship, much to the surprise and discomfort of William Riker. But does Worf’s future truly lie with Deanna…
or on a distant outpost called Deep Space 9 ? And whom indeed shall Troi ultimately call ‘imzadi’? Imzadi II is a compelling story, an untold chapter in the history of the Starship Enterprise .

But when Doctor Crusher leaves her position on the Enterprise to become the chief medical officer of Starfleet, the brightest light in Picard’s life is taken from him. And he has hardly resigned himself to his loss when he learns that Beverly has been declared missing in action on a distant planet and presumed dead. Kevratas is a bleak, frozen world on the far side of the Romulan Neutral Zone where the Federation has become the plague ravaged natives’ only real hope of survival and freedom. Starfleet has no recourse but to send in another team to try to save the Kevrata and Picard is the natural choice. Critical to the success of his mission are two colleagues who served under him when he commanded the Starship Stargazer Pug Joseph, a man with a past to live down, and Doctor Carter Greyhorse, who has served time for attempted murder as well as a Romulan who left his people years earlier and never expected to return. Together, they follow the trail of Beverly Crusher to Kevratas, determined to succeed where the doctor failed. On the Romulan homeworld, meanwhile, the political vacuum created by the demise of Praetor Shinzon has been filled by his staunchest supporter, Senator Tal’aura. But there are those who oppose her, including Commander Donatra and the warbird fleets under her command, because of the way Tal’aura has mishandled rebellions on the Empire’s subject worlds. And one rebellion in particular; the movement for self determination on frigid Kevratas. So begins a desperate struggle not only for the freedom of the long oppressed Kevrata but also for the soul of the Romulan Empire. Before it’s over, destinies will be forged and shattered, the Empire will be shaken to its ancient foundations, and Jean Luc Picard’s life will be changed…

Q & A (By:Keith R.A. DeCandido)

Nearly two decades ago, Jean Luc Picard took command of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC 1701 D. The captain knew it was an honor without equal. His new command bore the name of Enterprise. The people who had commanded other like named starships had gone down in Starfleet’s annals. Some officers would be intimidated, but they would not have been given command of Enterprise.

On her first mission, the Enterprise was sent to Farpoint Station. A simple, straightforward investigation. Perfect for a crew that had never served together. Then there was Q. An omnipotent lifeform that seemed bent on placing obstacle after obstacle in the ship’s and in particular in Picard’s way. And it hadn’t ended with that first mission. When he was least expected, Q would appear. Pushing, prodding, testing. At times needling captain and crew with seemingly silly, pointless, and maddening trifles. Then it would turn all too serious, and the survival of Picard’s crew was in Q’s hands.

Why was it today that Picard was remembering the day he took command of the Enterprise D? Now he commanded a new ship, the Enterprise E. His crew was different. There was nothing about Gorsach that in the least resembled Farpoint. But Picard couldn’t shake the feeling that something all too familiar was going on. All too awful. All too Q.

Before Dishonor (By:Peter David)

An enemy so intractable that it cannot be reasoned with. The entire race thinks with one mind and strives toward one purpose: to add our biological distinctiveness to their own and wipe out individuality, to make every living thing Borg. In over two centuries, the Federation has never encountered a greater threat. Twice Starfleet assembled and threw countless starships to stand against them. The Borg were stopped, the price paid in blood. Humanity breathed a sigh of relief, assuming it was safe. And with the destruction of the transwarp conduits, the Federation believed that the killing blow had finally been struck against the Borg. Driven to the point of extinction, the Borg continue to fight for their very existence, for their culture. They will not be denied. They must not be stopped. The old rules and assumptions regarding how the Collective should act have been dismissed. Now the Borg kill first, assimilate later. When the Enterprise manages to thwart them once again, the Borg turn inward. The dark places that even the drones never realized existed are turned outward against the enemy they have never been able to defeat. What is revealed is the thing that no one believed the Borg could do.

Greater Than the Sum (By:Christopher L. Bennett)

The Starship Rhea has discovered a cluster of carbon planets that seems to be the source of the quantum energies rippling through a section of space. A landing party finds unusual life forms inhabiting one of the planets. One officer, Lieutenant T’Ryssa Chen a half Vulcan makes a tenuous connection with them. But before any progress can be made, the Rhea comes under attack from the Einstein a Starfleet vessel now controlled by the Borg. The landing party can only listen in horror as their comrades are assimilated. The Borg descend to the planet, and just as Chen accepts that she will be assimilated, the lieutenant is whisked two thousand light years away. A quantum slipstream instantaneous transportation is controlled by these beings in the cluster, and in the heart of the cluster there is now a Borg ship. Cut off from the rest of the Borg collective, the Einstein cannot be allowed to rejoin it. For the sake of humanity, the Borg cannot gain access to quantum slipstream technology. Starfleet Command gives Captain Picard carte blanche: do whatever he must to help the beings in the cluster, and stop the Einstein no matter the cost.

Ex Machina (By:Christopher L. Bennett)

THE HUMAN ADVENTURE CONTINUES.

In the aftermath of the astonishing events of Star Trek : The Motion Picture, the captain and officers of the U.S.S. Enterprise remain haunted by their encounter with the vast artificial intelligence of V’Ger…
and by the sacrifice and ascension of their friend and shipmate, Willard Decker.

On the recently settled world of Daran IV, the former refugees of the Fabrini worldship Yonada are being divided by conflicting ideologies, as those clinging to their theocratic past vie with visionaries of a future governed by reason alone.

Now, echoes of the V’Ger encounter reverberate among the Enterprise officers who years ago overthrew the Oracle, the machine god that controlled Yonada. Confronting the consequences of those actions, Kirk, Spock, and McCoy also face choices that will decide the fate of a civilization, and which may change them forever.

At first the two colonies live in peace, but it’s a fragile peace, one shattered when Administrator Daniel Latham, the head of the Federation colony, is found murdered, and Commander Mak’Tor, the head of the Klingon colony, is found crouched over Latham’s body, discharged phaser still hot in his hand.

When Lieutenant Areel Shaw of Starfleet is assigned to prosecute Mak’Tor, Sam Cogley volunteers to defend the accused Klingon. But when Cogley’s own investigation provides the prosecution with its key piece of evidence and his courtroom tactics unexpectedly backfire, can even the galaxy’s most brilliant defense attorney win the day in…

Troublesome Minds (By:Dave Galanter)

First contact becomes an interstellar incident when the Starship Enterprise responds to a distress call from an unknown ship and saves the life of a man left to die by his own people. Berlis, member of a telepathic species calling themselves the Isitri, claims not to know why those from his homeworld want him dead. Captain James T. Kirk wants to believe him, but the damage is done: the Enterprise can neither leave the stranger to die nor turn him over to those who would kill him.

Berlis seems harmless, but his people say he cannot live among them: his telepathy is so strong that their wills are subsumed to his. The same fear that compels the Isitri to seek the death of one of their own drives the neighboring Odib people toward genocide. For every time a ‘troublesome mind’ dominates the Isitri, the Odib pay the price in their own blood.

With Spock becoming erratic under Berlis’s influence, and the Isitri begging Kirk to allow them to destroy the man who threatens their existence, matters take a disastrous turn when Berlis makes his way back to Isitra…
and an entire world falls to his whims.

Unspoken Truth (By:)

Tolek, another Hellguard survivor, tells Saavik that the survivors are being killed one by one and only they can discover who and why. That Which Divides (By:Dayton Ward)

Located in an area of non aligned space near Federation and Romulan territory, the Kondaii system is home to a unique stellar phenomenon: a spatial rift that opens every three years in proximity to the system’s sole inhabited planet. Only during this brief period is communication possible with the small, mineral rich planetoid inside the rift. The local population has established a mining colony on this planetoid, and for the limited du ration that the rift is open, a massive interplanetary operation is set into motion: ferrying mineral ore to the home planet while simultaneously transferring personnel and replenishing essential supplies and equipment everything necessary to sustain the colony before it once again enters forced isolation. While studying the rift, the science vessel U.S.S. Huang Zhong is severely damaged and crash lands on the planetoid. After the Starship Enterprise arrives to conduct rescue operations, evidence quickly points to the rift s artificial nature. It is a feat far beyond the capacity of the local inhabitants, and presents an alluring mystery for Captain James T. Kirk and his crew. It also attracts the attention of the Romulans, who are most interested in studying and perhaps seizing this supposed advanced technology by any means necessary.
