Allison Pittman Books Overview

All for a Story

All Camilla Deardon knows of the Mormons camping nearby is the songs she hears floating on the breeze. Then she meets one of them a young man named Nathan Fox. Never did she imagine he would be so handsome, so charming, especially after Mama and Papa’s warnings to stay away. Though she knows she should obey her parents, Camilla can t refuse her heart. But even Nathan s promises cannot prepare her for what she will face in Utah.

Stealing Home

It’s 1905 and the Chicago Cubs are banking on superstar Donald Duke Dennison s golden arm to help them win the pennant. Only one thing stands between Duke and an unprecedented ten thousand dollar contract: alcohol.

That s when sportswriter David Voyant whisks Duke to the one horse town of Picksville, Missouri, so he can sober up in anonymity. He bides his time flirting with Ellie Jane Voyant, his unofficial chaperone, who would rather hide herself in the railway station ticket booth than face the echoes of childhood taunts.

Ned Clovis, the feed store clerk, has secretly loved Ellie Jane since childhood, but he loves baseball and the Duke almost as much until he notices Ellie Jane may be succumbing to the star s charm.

Then there s Morris, a twelve year old Negro boy, whose only dream is to break away from Picksville. When Duke discovers his innate talent for throwing a baseball, Morris might just have found his way out.

Four individuals, each living in haunted isolation, each harboring a secret passion. Providence brings them together. Tragedy threatens to tear them apart. Will love be enough to bring them home?

Ten Thousand Charms

Unfit for Love?

Pregnant by a man who will never know or care. Gloria, born into a life of prostitution, sees only one solution: get rid of the child. But then she meets John William MacGregan, a miner, left with a newborn daughter and no one to care for her when his wife died during childbirth. So John and Gloria strike a deal. Gloria will care for Kate, and John will eventually raise her son. There is no offer of, nor seeking for, a hand in marriage. When John leaves the mines to seek his fortune in the new Oregon Territory , Gloria, Kate, and baby Danny must go with him. Yanked away from a life of prostitution, Gloria must finally face the pain that has always plagued her, and her longings for a home, a family, and a life free from shame. Ten Thousand Charms is a beautiful tale of an empty heart floundering and falling straight into the arms of Christ.

A woman with no future.

A man with no hope.

A God who knows the key to their deepest need lies in each other

Wyoming Territories, 1860. Gloria is in trouble. A mining camp is a merciless place when you re young, pregnant and a prostitute. No matter. Life will not defeat her.

John William McGregan is in despair. His beloved wife died in childbirth. And while John is a resourceful man, raising an infant daughter on his own seems impossible.

Thrown together by a seemingly cruel fate, Gloria and John William make a pact: She will nurse his daughter; he will raise her son. Neither asks for marriage. They are joined by necessity, nothing more.

But after a move to the new Oregon territory, facing John William’s faith day after day, and receiving an older woman s motherly mentoring, Gloria longs for something more. For the love she s been denied all her life. If only that life hadn t made her unfit, not only for John William but for God.

Then tragedy strikes making even the resolute John William question his faith. Terrified, Gloria turns to the One she has never been able to trust. But can even God save what now means more to Gloria than life itself: her newfound family?

Story Behind the Book

Having grown up watching reruns of Gunsmoke , I knew all about Miss Kitty and the prostitute with a heart of gold clich . But when I looked at those women, I couldn t imagine their hearts full of gold. Their hearts were just empty. That s when Gloria was conceived. The story itself came about much later, when at church we sang Come Ye Sinners, Poor and Needy. The chorus promises, In the arms of my dear Savior there are Ten Thousand Charms. This was the gold Gloria s heart needed. I wanted to write a story about a woman who falls into the arms of Christ, not even really knowing that she is seeking Him. Allison K. Pittman

Speak Through the Wind

After a lifetime of mistakes can Kassandra ever be forgiven?
New York City, 1841

When Reverend Joseph plucks a gravely wounded child from the mean streets of Manhattan’s rough Five Points District, he intends to give her a real home. And though Kassandra flourishes in the preacher s house, learning Bible verses at his knee and going to school, as a young teenager she makes the first of many devastating decisions, running away from the only haven she s ever known.

What follows is a waking nightmare: life in a tiny room above a brothel, the loss of a child, a lover s rejection, and finally, life as a prostitute. As circumstances lead her further and further from the reverend s secure home, an ashamed Kassandra is certain that neither God, nor Joseph, will ever forgive her.

Feeling as though she has nothing left to lose and nowhere to go, Kassandra leaves behind her hopes of redemption and heads west to California, where she is transformed into the woman known as Sadie. Unfortunately, nothing in her life is pointing to a happy ending, and Sadie is forced to grapple with the question: Once you ve passed the point of no return, can you ever go back?

With Endless Sight

Behind every story of loss is the promise of grace.

Belleville, Illinois and Wyoming Territories, 1861

Born into a life of privilege, fourteen year old Belinda never questions her security, even as she leaves Illinois with her family to discover new adventures in the Oregon Territory. But when disaster falls, Belinda is left wounded, weak, and alone. Her faith in God gives her the only strength she knows in a harsh new world.

Belinda’s journey takes her to a snow covered mining camp and a red roofed brothel in the Wyoming mountains, but not before she must spend a lonely winter with the man who took away the life she knew. Throughout the grief and hope of a strange land, Belinda must decide if her faith is big enough to allow her to forgive.

The satisfying conclusion to the Crossroads of Grace series, With Endless Sight offers a rich story of family, new beginnings, and the freedom that grace can bring.

Saturdays with Stella

Sometimes your best four legged friend is also your best teacher

When you bring a new dog into your home, a wash of great joy can become a trial of perseverance as your furry pal chews, digs, yaps, and yes, piddles her way through every room in the house. Allison Pittman learned this all too well when she adopted a tiny, shiny puppy of indefinable breeds. Stella wasted no time in turning her home upside down as only a pup can.

As could be expected, six weeks of obedience school covered the much needed basics sit, stay, come, and down. What Allison didn t expect was the spiritual benefit she would receive as each Saturday lesson revealed a fascinating metaphor. In this heart warming, thoughtful, and often hilarious tribute to her beloved Stella, Allison Pittman shares how she came to understand what it means to follow the ultimate Master, including how to:

Sit! at the feet of Jesus and listen for His voice
Drop It! and let go of personal agendas
Come! when it’s time to run in the right direction
Stay! in God s presence

In Saturdays with Stella, a slightly neurotic yet curiously adorable canine will not only capture your heart she ll show you how captivating you are to God.
