Vamp & Tramp, Booksellers, LLC /Biblio
Sherman Oaks, California:: Ninja Press,, Date: 2002.. Edition of 135. 5 x 5", 38 pages. The book was designed, printed and bound by Campbell. Printed letterpress in four colors, the text paper is Japanese hangashi, the poems are augmented by three cyanotypes, a 19th century photographic process which are sensitized by hand and printed on Velke Losiny paper by the photographer Carolee Campbell. The accordion style binding uses a luminous golden past paper, hand painted by Claire Maziarczyk. Together these elements create the impression of a silken coverlet under which the poem lies. This is a collection of poems written on the occasion of the poet's 25th wedding anniversary and offered as a gift to his wife. 2002. Ninja Press, [US]

ISBN10: 1770416579, ISBN13: 9781770416574, [publisher: ECW Press,Canada, Montreal] Softcover Paperback. The stunning conclusion to a 40-year poetic projectIn the tradition of earlier modernist long poems like Ezra Pounds Cantos and bp Nichols The Martyrology, The Invisible World Is in Decline: Book IX is full of startling poetic music and imagery while addressing concerns to which every reader will respond: the life of the heart as well as life during COVID-19, love as well as death, philosophy as well as emotion. The poems are deeply responsive to what an epigraph from Virgil calls vows and prayers, i.e., those things that we desire and promise. Like previous books of Whitemans long poem, Book IX is largely in the form of the prose poem. But the book also contains a moving series of translations in traditional form of texts taken from songs by composers like Schubert and Beethoven, songs that are by turns tragic, meditative, lyrical, and touching. The concluding section focuses on an obsession that poets have had for 2,500 years: inspiration, in the form of the nine Muses. At the heart of this book is what Whiteman calls the bright articulate world, something visionary but accessible to every thoughtful reader. Short, fragmentary poems from Canadian poet, translator, and essayist. Shipping may be from our Sydney, NSW warehouse or from our UK or US warehouse, depending on stock availability.
