Lara Adrian's books are amazing. Simply, one of the best Paranormal Series I've read. I had the great pleasure of binge reading the majority of the series straight through so I've only been waiting for the yearly books and novellas to come out now for the past 2 years. I devoured this one in what seemed like half an hour and like all the rest it lest me wanting more. Would have loved to have read a bit more about where Nova, Mathias and Eddie actually end up and the interaction between them after he finds her... But the fact that I want more is nothing new for me and The Midnight Breed Series. If you are a Paranormal fan, do not miss the page-turning plot, amazing characters and world created by Adrian. Now I'm on count-down again....

When I started reading paranormal books again, after veering away from them for years, the series that was recommended to me to read was Black Dagger Brotherhood. And then I found the Midnight Breed books for myself. To me, while I still love the BDB books, the Midnight Breed books are superior to them. So when I found this novella a couple of days ago, I was super excited to read it. The story didn’t disappoint, but something else did.

Mathias is the head of the Order in London. The Order is a group of highly trained vampire warriors. They police other vampires(known as Breed) and generally keep the peace among the Breed. Someone is killing humans with a tattoo of a scarab on their hands, and then dumping them into the river. When Mathias gets involved in the case, he investigates a tattoo parlor where a young woman named Nova works. Even though she denies knowing anything about the deaths, Mathias knows better due to his psychic ability to feel when violence has taken place somewhere. It’s not long before he realizes that Nova has more then one secret.

Since this is a novella that takes place after eleven previous books, the reader that hasn’t read the previous books might be a bit lost as far as the world building, however, Adrian does explain enough so this could be a stand alone. This series is rich in world building and actually is one of the reasons that makes it better to me, then BDB. My stance is, if this is the only Midnight Breed book(novella)you read, then by all means read it. True, it is but a sample of the Midnight Breed world, but it does give the reader a feel for what they will get if you read this series. What you get with this series is a urban fantasy/paranormal romance that is always a wonderful romance, along with hot vampire warriors, their breedmates, and plenty of action.

There was one thing that bothered me about this novella. It is billed at 100 pages but it actually ends at 83 percent in. The rest of the book is advertising other books by Lara Adrian. So while I was wishing for at least 100 pages of one of my favorite series, what I got was a much shorter story. That was a disappointment for me. So keep in mind, this is just a novella, but I would recommend not only reading this short story, but starting at the beginning with Kiss of Midnight. If you like UF or Paranormal romance, and haven’t read this series yet, I don’t think you will be disappointed in the least.(RabidReads.com)

This was a nice novella, but I am almost always left wanting more from this author's shorter works. I appreciate that a novella, especially novellas because they're so short, has chapter demarcations even more than a regular book because they're not necessarily required in such a case. Chapter demarcations, in longer works, make it so much easier to see how close you are to the end of a chapter or to find a stopping place when you need to do so. I won't bore you with a plot summary as I know other reviewers are fond of doing that. It was nice to get to read a bit more about a character that isn't as focused on as much as others in most of the series. I often wonder what is going on in the rest of the planet in the universe of this series. This is a nice little story that I think is essential to read for completeness of the series, so if you liked the previous works in the series, I say you should give this one a shot. Have at it because I don't think you'll regret it. I can't wait for Crave the Night which is due out in August.

I really enjoyed this book, I hope we see more of Nova and Mathis in future books, I liked them. It is not a long book, and was a quick read, but still enjoyable, some action, and some hot love scenes. If you like the Breed books that came before, you will enjoy this one. I loved the characters, and would love to know what happens with Eddie being raised with Mathis. I recommend this book, just beware it is short.

I love this author and enjoy the series but felt this started great but ended not so great. As always the writing and continuity was very good and bear in mind this is a novella so over all it was a good story but...

It started with some interesting events, Nova and her breed mate met and had problems and the plot thickened. Sad to say that was it as the next moment everything was resolved and we were hearing about the next book.

A novella may only be a short read but it still needs to be developed and this could have used maybe another chapter or two. I have given it a three because I found it lacking and was disappointed and I have come to the conclusion I can't give a higher rating based on previous experience. However if you have not read this author then start at the beginning of this series as you will find it is a wonderful way to pass the time.

Another Novella to accompany the Midnight Breed Series and like the other I wish it had been a full book, it left a couple of big unanswered questions, so I guess that must mean it's a lead in for a future book. I sure hope so.

Basically it visits Boston Breed Male and friend of Sterling Chase 20 years after we met him last, now leader of the Order's UK branch. As he and his team go about their business routing rogue nests and keeping the peace, he comes in contact with a mysterious young breedmate who captivates him, and he proceeds to solve a baffling case while at the same time giving in to his growing obsession with her.

Fun, sensual stuff in typical Lara Adrian style.

Well written as always and a nice fast read.
