I was born in south Georgia(USA), graduated from high school in Atlanta, married my husband, James, in Habersham County, and graduated from Piedmont College(Demorest, GA) summa cum laude in history with minors in anthropology and Spanish in 1995.

I worked for over 16 years as a newspaper reporter on both weekly and daily papers. In between reporting jobs, I had a son, Blayne, my greatest creative achievement. I love iguanas and most other animals, and am the biggest geek on earth. If it's electronic, and non-lethal, I probably have one. I was always the kid who was out of step with the rest of the world, and I still am. My father was a college professor, so my sister and I grew up not quite understanding what prejudice was.

I traveled a lot when I was more mobile than I am now, and I never met a person I didn't like. Writing books is more than a job to me, it's my life, next to being a wife, mother and grandmother. I am a person of faith, but I respect all religions and all cultures.

I write romantic suspense for HQN books, mass market and series contemporary romance for Harlequin, and science fiction novels for Luna Books. In my spare time, I sleep. :)

I have this in paperback and had to get it for my Kindle. I have always loved this story and Diana Palmer. She never misses a beat as far as I'm concerned. I constantly update my Kindle with her old releases as well as purchasing her new releases. She's and excellent storyteller.

Soldier of Fortune is the first book in DP's Soldiers of Fortune series. JD "Archer" now a Criminal Lawyer and Gabby his Paralegal. Gabby doesn't know JD was a mercenary. His sister is kidnapped and Gabby wonders how he plans on saving her. She meets his old friends and thus the adventure begins. I loved all the secondary characters. What a cool bunch of guys. Can't wait to read their stories. JD and Gabby have a rough time before love wins out.

This is the first in the series Solders of Fortune and this is a very good intro into as it grabs you and makes you want to read it and the rest of the series... but then for me All of Diana Palmer's books do that to me. The series is about men who have been mercenaries and who have seen the worst but are still able to find a woman who can love them.

I don’t know what the problem was, but this just wasn’t that good. I don’t like bullies and trying to pass them off as alpha males doesn’t make them any less of a bully. Sorry, but I won’t be reading anymore of this series. The writing felt choppy to me, it didn’t flow.

3.0 out of 5 stars Gabby & JD
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 23, 2018
JD is a retired mercenary working as a criminal lawyer. He has a assistant, Gabby, that for some reason rattles him. When his sister is kidnapped he recruits his fellow mercenaries; Dutch, Diego, Apollo, Senson and First shirt on a rescue mission. Oh! And he takes Gabby for the ride!!! When he is almost killed, Gabby saves him, almost losing her own. He is etching to go back to his old life so he does everything to discourage her going way to far. Gabby finally realises there isn't a chance for her and resigns. It should have been a great story but there is something missing. Found myself skipping pages because it all became to slow paced and a bit boring
