Murder on an Irish Farm: A Charming Irish Cozy Mystery (An Irish Village Mystery) Hardcover – February 22, 2022
Purchase options and add-ons
If only her mother could be here! The entire O’Sullivan brood—not to mention the regulars from Naomi’s Bistro—have gathered at St. Mary’s Church for the wedding of Siobhán and Macdara. It’s not every day you see two garda marrying each other. Only Siobhán’s brother James is missing. They can’t start without him.
But when James finally comes racing in, he’s covered in dirt and babbling he’s found a human skeleton in the old slurry pit at the farmhouse. What farmhouse? Macdara sheepishly admits he was saving it as a wedding surprise: he purchased an abandoned dairy farm. Duty calls, so the engaged garda decide to put the wedding on hold to investigate.
James leads them to a skeleton clothed in rags that resemble a tattered tuxedo. As an elderly neighbor approaches, she cries out that these must be the remains of her one true love who never showed up on their wedding day, fifty years ago. The garda have a cold case on their hands, which heats up the following day when a fresh corpse appears on top of the bridegroom’s bones. With a killer at large, they need to watch their backs—or the nearly wedded couple may be parted by death before they’ve even taken their vows. . .

- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2025I'm addicted to cozy mysteries and this is one of the best of way more than a hundred that I've read in the past few years. Carlene O'Connor is brilliant, funny and incredibly skilled at weaving a plot that keeps the reader riveted to every page. In "Murder on an Irish Farm", one of the Irish Village Mystery Series, readers are carried through an almost wedding, endearing family in interactions and antics, murders, thefts all in the context of scenery depicted in vivid description, so real you're there! The horrific parts of the story are mellowed with romance and humor and neighborly villagers , but tension rises during the compelling scenes of danger and close calls. Trying to follow the winding thread of clues leading to the real killer's identity is a challenge. Captivating plot!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2025I loved this novel particularly because of the setting and also because each character was well developed. There was little to dislike. I gave it four stars only because I rarely give five. Highly recommend for mystery lovers.

If you enjoy a good romantic comedy and a great mystery then this book is definitely for you. - Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2025The wedding was happening. Siobhan and Macdara were finally getting married. As Father Kearney was ready to ask the magical question, James O’Sullivan, who was absent from the church, burst through the door. Instead of finishing the ceremony they talked to James who said he had found a body. Alas, the wedding was postponed at the last minute as Gardas Siobhan and Macdara raced to the scene.
Were they going to solve the crime? Was Siobhan going to get into her usual spot of bother during the investigation? Were they eventually going to tie the knot?
In a typical Kilbane murder situation, Siobhan leads the way as all the clues come together.
Another light read from Carlene O’Connor.

3.0 out of 5 stars The main character attitude needs improvement
The main character is the least likeable and a bit too much, hard to describe

1.0 out of 5 stars A terribly written book!
This was a terrible book. It is written as if the author is not Irish but may have visited Ireland.
I would recommend true Irish authors like Liz Nugent and Tana French before I would ever recommend Carlene Oconnor!
Give them a try.
