In the charming Yorkshire seaside town of Scarborough, the stage is set for murder . . .
Helen Dexter has started a new chapter in her life as sole proprietor of the Seaview Hotel.
But things take a dramatic turn when an acting troupe book into the hotel to rehearse a play they hope will save a much-loved theatre from being closed down. Helen immediately picks up on tension between the actors, but there is worse to come when the charismatic leading lady is found dead.
With so much at stake, it's clear the show must go on. Helen is roped into helping the troupe with their performance, giving her ample opportunity to discover who wanted their diva dead.
However, the murder is not the only thing on Helen's mind. She's receiving threatening phone calls, her car is vandalised - and she's just learned of an impending visit from a hotel inspector which could change the fortunes of the Seaview Hotel.
With her trusty greyhound Suki by her side, Helen is determined to uncover the identity of the killer - even if it means she has to give the performance of her life.

All the ingredients for a perfect saga and I loved Meg; she's such a strong and believable character. A fantastic debut―Emma Hornby
Glenda has an exceptionally keen eye for domestic detail which brings this local community to vivid, colourful life and Meg is a likeable, loving heroine for whom the reader roots from start to finish―Jenny Holmes
I found it difficult to believe that this was a debut novel, as "brilliant" was the word in my mind when I reached the end. I enjoyed it enormously, being totally absorbed from the first page. I found it extremely well written, and having always loved sagas, one of the best I've read―Margaret Kaine

About the author

'Amazing novels' - Sharon Marshall, ITV This Morning presenter.
'Such a good writer. She's fantastic!' - Jane Garvey, Woman's Hour, BBC Radio 4.
My historical sagas are set in a British northeast mining village, where I grew up. My books feature feisty females and are wonderfully dramatic, written with a touch of humour. I also write fun, cosy crimes and these are set in modern-day Scarborough on the UK's Yorkshire coast.
I’m a prize-winning short story writer too. My short fiction has appeared in magazines including Take a Break, My Weekly, The People's Friend and The People's Friend Fiction Special. And I am the author of the first ever weekly soap opera, Riverside, for The People's Friend magazine - the longest running women's magazine in the world.
A life-long fan of the soap opera Coronation Street, I run two Coronation Street fan websites. The Coronation Street Blog is praised by the Manchester Evening News as 'Excellent' and 'Essential Reading for Street Fans'. The site was a finalist in the UK Blog Awards 2016 and 2018.
I also run and own the internet's first and original Coronation Street fan website www.corrie.net, online since 1995.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2023Great 2nd story in the Seaview series. I have spent many a holiday in Scarborough and find this book absolutely spot on . I'm sure the author must have stayed in the same hotel as my wife and myself
- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2022I enjoyed the second Helen Dexter mystery. Followed on nicely from book one. Just one anomally though, if Jean grew up in Hull, she couldn't have also grown up with Alfie in Scarborough. Maybe Ms Young needs a better editor.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2022This was an enjoyable mystery to read. I was hooked early on in the story. The story involves more than one mystery, the murder itself and a mystery dealing with the behavior of the protagonist's boyfriend. I highly recommend this book to other mystery readers.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2022A delightful read of another adventure and murder for Helen and the gang to solve. The characters are an unusual group to befuddle Helen with a delightful outcome.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice follow up to the first book.
I found this book an entertaining read, as was the first in the series. It’s warm with an interesting plot and easy to follow.
Some of it’s a little silly e.g. Helens recording of a conversation, and sometimes Jimmys behaviour. Enjoyable story though, and lovely realistic setting including characters who are easy to imagine. I look forward to reading the third one and finding out about Helens next assortment of guests. A very good read for anyone who enjoyed the first book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth reading
The second of a series of novels set at the Yorkshire resort of Scarborough. Humerous, outrageous in parts, but very entertaining and great fun. Well worth reading

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book
As we love Scarborough this book was really great. Not to heavy and has a nice story through all 3 books. Just hope she writes more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Scarborough, sleuthing and suspense.
A much awaited sequel to the amazing new cosy crime series from the fabulous Glenda Young.
We left book 1, Murder at the Seaview Hotel (if you haven’t read it, READ IT NOW!) wanting more, and the more has arrived with more of the characters we fell in love with. Helen is not only a believable character, you want her to be your friend; add in Jean, Sally, Suki (the retired greyhound) et al, as well as the new troupe of people that the whole story is set around and you’ve got another barn stormer, I’m not the fastest reader but both books were finished over a weekend each as I just wanted to know more.
You feel like you know Scarborough from the way it is passionately and accurately written about, as a resident that brings such familiarity to all settings, as an outsider (we have sent book 1 to friends and family all over the country) they feel they know Scarborough like a local. It’s simply a beautiful thing.
We are ready for more Glenda, bring on book 3, what else can Helen encounter in her fabulous guest house with those views of North Bay and the castle? What more will she ask of Jean to add to the breakfast menu? Jimmy?
