Frost's Forfeit (The Fae Queen Of Winter) Paperback – March 31, 2020
Duty and motherhood don't go well together, at least not for the Fae Queen of Winter.
With the Fae Queen of Summer itching for war, a daughter to protect, and a kingdom to run, things are already complicated for Nieves. When she calls the annual frosts and discovers she's being watched by a mysterious man, things only get worse.
Faced with an almost impossible choice, Nieves has to make the best decision for her people, her daughter and her heart.
Frost's Forfeit is Jack & Nieves complete story and is a paranormal fantasy romance featuring fae and necromancers. It also serves as a prequel to The Fae Queen Of Winter.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2022I love Laura’s books in general and this short 90-minute read in particular. What a fresh take on Jack Frost! From the beginning you have an inkling where this is going, but the why came as a surprise, which I’ll not spoil for you - read the story and find out. I loved the author pointing out how the weather fae were opposite to humans where female and male dominance was concerned. This is an aptly named, fast-paced read that I’d recommend if you wanted to see how you liked Laura’s books. Also recommended for lovers of fae lore, weather magic, Jack Frost and Snow Queen and fast-paced fantasy reads.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2019This was a cute story, however we were told more than actual action happening. Nieves tells us about the conflict that may cause a war between her season and the other seasons, which is for the most part easily remedied.
If you remove or reword the intimate part of Nieves and Jack getting together this could be considered G rated reading. It’s a quick read with some allusions to fae folk coercing some non-fae folk into mating but it never actually takes place. Plus there are some contradictory parts to the story and some parts that just didn’t make sense at least to me.
It’s a fairytale read without too much heavy lifting.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2019A bit slow to start, this quick read dives in to the hard decisions a mother, who happens to be the Fae Queen of Winter, faces. She deals with love, new, and her unconditional love for her child, questioning who she can trust... and facing what she will do as her responsibilities to her people, and her child, sit on her shoulders with surprising grace.
Jack was an enigma... until he began to open up, and evolved into a character I should have seen coming... the bread crumbs were fairly and nicely laid out.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2018I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review, but I loved the story, so I bought it so I'll always have it.
This is a very fun and imaginative reenvisioning of the tale of Jack Frost and how he came to herald in the winter. It is a prequel to another book I adored, so I reeeally enjoyed getting this glimpse into the world and lives of the characters that built the next book, Saving Eira.
If you love reimagined fairytales as much as I do, (soooo much!) this book, and the next, are some you will not want to miss!!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2019The tale is short, very short, and while cute, it's over full of misused words, misspelled words, and other things a good proofreader should have caught and fixed.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2019Nieves, the Queen of Winter, finds her mate only to find out that the Queen of Summer wants him to take her powers. Only they have come up with a plan that keeps the Queen of Summer from getting them.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2019Like the suspense. Like the mystery. Loved the connection of the daughter. Good one on the necromancer. Didn't see that coming
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2019The Winter Fae Queen Neives has been bringing the winter element around for some time. She was also mated at one time and her mate left her. He was not her soulmate, but for this union she has a child. She is trying to shelter her daughter because there has been recent events to suggest someone is trying to kill the queen or her daughter. Then here comes Jack who she cannot get a read on to see if he is paranormal or just human. She does feel comfortable around him and tries to brush off her feelings. Then something big happens that I did not see coming. I still wonder if she made the right choice. Its a short story to read, so it gets to the point real fast.

4.0 out of 5 stars Frost is all that matters
This story is quite cute. I loved to meet Jack and Nieves. I admired world creation and plot idea, only regret is that we have no more of background story. Despite it to be full story, or a prequel to be exact, it felt left hanging, since we didn’t get the answers. But it was very nice story despite that. And I admire Nieves for finding the way to protect her daughter, her soulmate and her people and even the future of the Winter season.

This story is full of magic and beauty. It's a relaxing read and while there is tension and conflict it is balanced with warmth and happiness. The characters are very lovable and the world built by the author is fascinating.
