About the author

Amelia Hutchins is a WSJ and USAT Bestselling author of the Monsters, The Fae Chronicles, and Legacy of the Nine Realms series. She is an admitted coffee addict who drinks magical potions of caffeine and turns them into magical worlds. She writes alpha-hole males and the alpha women who knock them on their arses, hard. Amelia doesn’t write romance. She writes fast-paced books that go hard against traditional standards. Sometimes a story isn’t about the romance; it’s about rising to a challenge, breaking through it like a wrecking ball, and shaking up entire worlds to discover who they really are. - Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2019This story is so epic the pages it is written on can hardly contain it. Very well written characters who you cant help but connect with. Amelia Hutchins has graced her readers with a story so well written that the only voices you hear within are the characters themselves. At no time was I pulled from the emersion of the world she created by forced writing. The characters she creates grow and develop so organically and she always stays true to the voice and choices that character would make in a way that takes you on the journey with them. I really cant say enough good about the Fae/Monsters universe that she has created.
When I choose a book to read, I feel like I am briefly forming a connection to the author as I am being invited into their mind and into a world they created. When I agree to follow a series such as The Monster series I am creating a relationship with the author based on trust. I am trusting the author to take me on a journey and that I will be allowed to experience that journey along with the characters I am introduced to.
Amelia Hutchins, you are a master. You create a world and fill it with characters who are so organic and real. You write in such a way that leaves your magic all over the creation without tainting it with an outside voice. While reading Becoming His Monster, I never once felt pulled from the story by decisions or actions or conversations that felt forced or unlike what the character would choose. You have an amazing ability to write your stories in such a way that your style is easily recognizable but your presence is so muted that the only people I recognize being involved in the story are the characters, themselves. You never break my trust by forcing your own personal feelings or agenda in a way that doesnt ring true to the characters. For example, (avoiding spoilers so I'll be vague) you could have easily forced things between Lucian, Lena and Spyder to go a very different way in one particular scene and I know it must have been tempting because holy hell it was combustible already, but it wouldnt have been true to what the characters would have chosen and would have cheapened those relationships long term for the reader by diminishing the bond of the main characters. You never take the easy way out with lazy, generic writing or rush bringing the story full circle. Your characters have to earn their happily ever after and some dont make it to the end. This always makes me feel so invested that it takes a large amount of trust to read the nextbook in the series because I would be crushed if you broke your magical spell by falling into the "author trap" of pushing your own agenda rather than following where the story is taking us. Thank you for proving once again that I can always trust you to give me an amazing story with characters I love to follow. Bravo! Becoming His Monster was yet another masterpiece and I can not wait for the next book! Sincerely and for what it is worth, thank you.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2024Great book. Their dynamic has changed. Everything was consensual. I was wondering why that changed. Was it because she died and the loss made him regret and when given another chance he changed things? Or is it because she is closer to being his equal. Hmmmmmm. Read and find out.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2020Agh what can I say. I cried reading this book. So many people died, people we care about. But the ending might have made it all worth it... and of course I want to keep reading to see what happens. Man oh man am I excited!
Updating this review from 2020
The book starts off months after Lena died (1-2 months- it’s not too specific). She’s training with her dead brother because she has resurrected as something more than human. Now, she is immortal- for the most part. She and her brother are fighting off evil beings, demons, and all of a sudden, Lucian appears, along with others. Ucan doesn’t believe that it’s really her, considering that he helped bury her weeks before and held her corpse for a long time after she died. He thinks that she’s an image- something evil. So he, along with other members, corner her to get her to reveal who she is. She tries to tell him that it’s really her, but he doesn’t believe her. She ends up proving herself, but it takes a lot of bloodshed and fighting to get to this point.
Meanwhile, chaos has depute erupted all over. I love seeing characters from the other books in this one. They’ve all come together to try to stop the evil that is trying to overtake their world. Lena can I have a way of stopping it, but she and the others don’t know exactly how. Lucifer makes another appearance, trying to seduce her once again, and he thinks that it’s working, but she uses it as a way to seek revenge for the death of her son.
Other things happen, people die, and of course I got emotional. They have to find a way to battle and fight against the darkness that is threatening to overtake everything. In the process, Lina Hass to embrace her new immortality and role, with Lucian by her side belong her harness her powers/wings/emtions. God- the ending!!! 😩😩😩🥺🥺🥺.
Lena comes back with hatred for Lucian- for having to give up her life and the life of their child because of him, because of his vendetta, because she had to be selfless to save the world since their child was going to be a harbinger of evil. I loooved the sexy tension between them 🔥🥵💦. She tells him he has to earn her, and he does 😉😅. Although he could’ve groveled more, he did good. The smexy times were STEAMY 🔥🥵😉. She tried to fight their connection, but it’s inevitable- they’re made for each other. Lucian trying to control Lena was 🥵👏🏻🔥.
There’s A LOT of repetitiveness 😬. I appreciated it sometimes, but many times I felt like “okay… I get it… you’ve already said this many times!” We know Lena is hurting, we know she’s in pain, but I don’t need to keep rereading about it over and over. It made it a lot of angsty this second time around.
I hope book 4 is everything I’ve been waiting for and that we find out the who Lucian is and the extend of his powers 👏🏻.
⚠️safety squad⚠️
-no cheating/owd (the H remains celibate after the h died before this book begins)
-there’s a sharing scene with OM (it was needed to sever the bond- no d in the v but he does get a bj while the H is in her v)
-OM2 kisses/really makes out with the h before the h “kills” him (revenge)
-dubcon scenes
-lots of gruesome deaths
-the H slaps the h 2 times- once when the H thought the h was someone else pretending to be her, the other the H “lightly” taps her
-restraints are used here and there

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully haunting
Playing with Monsters 3 is haunting in that every twist and every turn leaves you wanting more.
Lena is as strong as she is beautiful, her monster is unmatched in every way but yet she feels so much.
Loved this book, so much that I now must do a re-read from the beginning of the fae series right through.
The cliff hanger broke me but has left me with wanting so much more that I can not wait for more.
This series will not disappoint you, you will love the world and everything about it...

5.0 out of 5 stars [Must Read] Obsessive. Thrilling. Heartbreaking. Steamy. Worth It.
My mind exploded with the way Book 2 ended but this one, this one obliterated me.
Lena made me fall in love with her even more in this book than in all the others. She's just so perfectly imperfect. Lucian's complete match. And even more, his doomed salvation.
Lucian on the other hand, what in ever-loving Gods and Furies did he whisper in her ear at the end? And seriously, Death and Lucian having a meeting; baby Harbinger alive? Boom - brain explosion, again.
I loved every second of reading these books. Especially, this one. It had something more to it than the previous two. Something darker, more consuming, scarier, earth-shattering and thrilling. My heart broke over and over again for Lena. But, it also broke for Spyder - who the Hell is he? What is he? I know we all what to know what Lucian is but Spyder is something close to whatever Lucian is if he's the one L. trusts so much. Argh! I need more.
I can't wait to see how the story unfolds in Book 4.
