- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2025I enjoyed this series and this book when it was first published. It is a favorite re-read. This is written by a favorite author and I love this series. My only wish is that it was in audible form too. A favorite daughter meets her life mate. A misunderstanding occurs, then a sneaky trick making her the prize in a warrior challenge causes discord in her family…she runs. The retrieval is interesting and her mate’s retrieval trip brings much happiness. HEA, no cheating, no cliffhanger. This is an exceptional read. Highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2025I love the first book, but I love the fact that I now get to see what happens with the family. I always wondered what would happen with any children and how they would handle the differences in the First book in raising those children so I love seeing this and the romance and finding oneself in the in this book is great.. I love it. It is hard to review a book. I am learning without giving away spoilers.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2013This is the sequel to Johanna Lindsey's extremly popular Warrior's Woman. This book focuses on the daughter of the two main character from Warrior's woman.
Shanelle is product of a mother who comes from an advanced world and a father that clings to the traditional ways of his world. She has managed to walk the line between those two worlds and seems to put on the approriate behavior depending which parent she is with.
What is not clear is Shanelle's fear of pain. The book says she has this fear because of a tramitic childhood experiance. Ok, you can follow that. The fear seems to change though. She is afraid of how the warriors of her father's town punish their women, even though it has been stated clearly that they punish them this way because they do not want to physically harm them. She even goes so far as to perfer being spanked (A physical punishment) over their manner (which is sexual frustration). It never made sense. This was my issue with this book more then any thing else.
Falon is a wonderful hero who is able to prove to Shanelle's father that he will make the perfect protector and keeper of her heart.
This story is still enjoyable. It brings back so many of the characters from the previous book that it is like visiting old friends. The weakness is only Shanelle's fears which are completely unclear and don't really work to drive the story line.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2025There is hope for the future, if it will be done. Are we really alone in this universe?
good read!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2024All these years later and I still love these characters. I read this book maybe 20 years ago, or less, I really do not recall. I just know it was a long time ago. The stories, the characters, the plot, all are just perfectly Lindsey. I highly recommend all of her books as she is one of the best to have ever done romance.
Wouldn't it be cool if someone took her books and turned them into 1st person with chapters belonging to different characters? Just an idea...
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2016Shanelle's view on pain "the terror of what he was doing combined with the pain had made her faint four times. And she had had a deep, unreasonable fear of pain ever since" was obtained at 10 years old due to the actions of a sadistic kidnapper.
I just started reading this book but I had read several reviews opining that Shanelle was "baby", a "wuss", etc.
True, she did take some defense training. Does the training nullify her fear that she has had since she was 10 and make it a non-factor? Or does it say more about her that she took the training in spite of her fear?
As I said, I just started the book but I'm going to go with it says more about her and give her the same respect that everyone deserves for acting in spite of deep-seated fears.
I'm am giving this 3 stars as that is what I usually Johanna Lindsey books. I love most of her books. They are quick, fast, easy reads. I'll reassess that rating when I finish. If I don't edited my review and/or change the rating within a day or so, my opinion stands.
Edited to add 05/31/16: Another poster opined that there was not a plot. The plot was the personal journey for Shanelle to overcome some of her other fears.
Otherwise, my rating and review stands. Another quick and easy read.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2016The second in the Ly-san-ter series. Tedra and Challon's daughter is all grown up now and as independent as her mother. She refused to marry a warrior like her mother did and be told what, when and how to do something. Tedra has her trained as she was but before Shanelle knows her life mate will be given to her by her father, she tries to flee. Until she meets Falon Vanyer. She is automatically attracted to him and finds him uncontrolled in ALL ways which causes her immense physical pain. Something that Shanelle has never been good at dealing with. Falon is like 7 feet tall and all brawn; Everywhere!! After Challon has given her to him, she runs to hide away on another planet before he can actually claim her as his. The cat and mouse game in this story is fun. I thought it was a fun read with all the new and old ways the two worlds. I love Tedra from book 1 and love her even in this one. She is as devoted to her children as to her warrior life mate. It's a sci-fi romance and a good story line. I can't wait to read the last one. Sci-fi is out of genre, but I really have enjoyed reading these.

This was a very pleasant read, you should start with the first book in the series. When I read I like to go off to a different planet and indulge in fantasies I would not indulge in real life. This book hit the mark for me. I like the alpha male with a soft spot, and the female who bucks the system. I will certainly be reading more of Johanna Lindsey's books. She is up there on my list with authors like Christine Feehan, Nalini Singh and Rachel Ward.
This is the first review I have ever written so do not hand them out on a whim, it was only that I enjoyed the book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Une héroine pénible...
Shanelle est une héroine trop émotive et fragile pour me plaire, et le nouveauté de ce monde étrange s'est évaporée. Seul l'ordinateur Martha et son caractère autoritaire continuent à me faire rire. Le héros est complètement obtus aussi...

2.0 out of 5 stars 74% wasted on angst
I preferred the 1st book where heroine didn't run around like a cowad. Fearing pain so much she'd rather place her life on strangers than that of her brother, father etc even her potential lifemate who has proved many times that he won't hurt her again.
