- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2013Fun story. I was able to sit and read it, while sipping coffee on a cool end of summer day. I love Texas and so this was fun..I like stories that dovetail into a book already read, this was no exception. Thanks Debbie for a good read.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2013I throughly enjoyed Nell's Cowboy. The way Debbie slowly built up the relationship t'weenNell and Travis was very good. And how she deloped the story with the other towspeople made it so good. And what truly made it apageturner was their search for Bitter End . I don't want to give the story awayBut it's definely worth reading. I haven't found any books that introduce Dovie and Frank. And along comes marriage if there are any books about Dovie and Frank please let me know.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2014Story was fine. Almost formula like in the story and outcome. I love Debbie Macomber but this was one of her smaller works and not the novel I am used to reading of hers. It was ok though for a fast read.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2006Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseFifth book in the Heart of Texas series (also known as Sons of Promise): Lonesome Cowboy, Texas Two-Step, Caroline's Child, Dr. Texas, Nell's Cowboy, and Lone Star Baby. Nell's Cowboy is the book in the series in which the mystery of the ghost town of Bitter End is finally solved.
Description from the book back cover:
Nell Bishop, widowed mother of two, is turning Twin Canyons into a dude ranch. Her first guest is Travis Grant, an Easterner known for his children's books. Nell's kids are crazy about him, and Nell could fall for him herself. But it's too soon to be thinking of love and marriage again. Not only that, Travis seems intent on stirring up the town - uncovering the mystery in its past.
SONS OF PROMISE: They're rugged, proud and just a little sassy! They'll make you laugh and they'll make you cry. Meet them all in Promise, Texas.

There is a glaring error, however. Matthew 28:46 was quoted, but the correct passage is Matthew 27:46.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Romance
It was refreshing to see a man who would look at a women for her wealth of knowledge, compassion and commitment to family rather than physical attributes. Nell had a hard life, raised two great kids and deserved man who would see her true qualities.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nels cowboy
As always a delight to read. This book had it all ... Romance, mystery. Story line that could be read alone or part of a series, again it takes the reader on a journey , I felt part of the story Luke I was there. I can't get enough of Debbie's books can't put them down, and can't wait to start the next chapter in the lives of the people in Promise
