Note: Continued story. 3rd in The Foleys & The McCords multi-author series
EASY READ. Likable hero, feisty dialogue, and a fairy tale story vaguely similar to the movie "Sabrina" without the sweet heroine. Unfortunately, this heroine is self-centered, rationalizes any action which benefits herself, and exploits her mother's job and position of trust, with deceit. In addition, the book drags in places, needs a diagram to keep track of the many family names and relationships, and the ending just leaves the reader hanging.
THE STORY follows ambitious reporter, Tanya Kimbrough, who snoops in the McCord's family home where her mother works as the housekeeper. When she is caught eavesdropping on privileged information, she then blackmails wealthy surgeon, Dr. Tate McCord for an exclusive and he agrees. Although he is supposedly engaged to be married, he spends every day with her feeding her information while still concealing the family secrets and the search for a legendary diamond. Despite their differences the inevitable romance blossoms.
OVERALL, nothing special. The hero is charming, but neither of the main characters are completely honest, the underlying thoughtlessness and self-focus of the heroine at the beginning is unpleasant, and the ending is terrible. There are better books out there.
You may also enjoy the complex characters and storytelling of N. Bruhns, A. Stuart, L. L. Miller, R. C. Ryan, or L. Wilde. For sweet, funny, romances with great descriptive imagery and heart touching emotion, try Susan Fox, Cara Colter, and E. Palfrey.
