About the author

Enid Blyton is one of the most popular children's authors of all time. Her books have sold over 500 million copies and have been translated into other languages more often than any other children's author.
Enid Blyton adored writing for children. She wrote over 700 books and about 2,000 short stories. The Famous Five books, now 75 years old, are her most popular. She is also the author of other favourites including The Secret Seven, The Magic Faraway Tree, Malory Towers and Noddy.
Born in London in 1897, Enid lived much of her life in Buckinghamshire and loved dogs, gardening and the countryside. She was very knowledgeable about trees, flowers, birds and animals. Dorset - where some of the Famous Five's adventures are set - was a favourite place of hers too.
Enid Blyton's stories are read and loved by millions of children (and grown-ups) all over the world. Visit enidblyton.co.uk to discover more.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2013I read the Famous five series as a child and have introduced it to my niece. She cannot get the books fast enough now.

Enid’s books were the catalyst which encouraged me to start reading more than 50 years ago. Thank you, Enid. The BBC, many libraries, local authorities and alleged educational experts have been completely wrong about the worth of the Blyton works. I can remember having substantial difficulty obtaining the original books as so many places would not stock them. The stories are great to read for their simplicity and straightforwardness.
When one did find copies of the book they were quite expensive all those years ago but great to own. I loved the letter on the back cover from Enid and the physical appearance of the book which I treasured as a youngster with the way the books were produced then which made them somehow much easier to read.
It’s a delight to read the stories again in middle age although recent editing has diminished some of the memories I have of the original editions and words used then (but I am now getting old). Never mind… these books remain one of my best friends for life: they began my reading adventure so do read these special adventures for yourselves.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2019Daughter and I have this rule about reading a chapter per day. It's sometimes so hard to follow them because the stories are so adventurous. We loved Five Go to Mystery Moor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mystery Moor with the Famous Five
I dont know how Enid Blyton managed to know just what children wanted to read about, even in this day and age the books hold a wonderful fascination to children. They read of the Famous Five who could go off and have fantastic exciting adventures and not have any interference from adults. These books are and always have been a real feel good read.
