    On September 11, 2001 Mark, Bingham was a passenger on United Airlines' Flight 93 when a group of passengers made a decision to rise up against their terrorist hijackers. Their heroic action ended in their deaths, but they probably prevented that plane from being used as a missile against the White House. Mark, an openly gay man, is said to have been in the group that rushed the terrorists. In order to get a sense of Mark's life, an editor for the Advocate magazine interviewed family and friends for this portrait.
