    In this story set in pre-Revolutionary War Williamsburg, Virginia, an 11-year-old boy named John is confused by the ever-increasing tensions that exist between the colonies and England--tensions which are mirrored in his own family by the increasingly strained relations between his father and brother. John's father hopes to find a peaceful solution to the colonist's problems with the British, but his older brother thinks that the colonists must go to war with England in order to win their rights. Caught in the middle, John wonders if he should side with his peace-minded father or his rebellious brother.
