Muze Annotation: John Winch writes and illustrates a version of the Noah's Ark story told from the animals' points of view, with extraordinarily detailed full-color near-realistic oil paintings depicting their adventure. An unnamed Noah is glimpsed within the ark, but Winch never alludes to the angrily destructive God of the Bible story. The tale opens with the animals around a water hole, an obviously polluting city in the distance and an area denuded of forest in their vicinity, while Noah builds the ark in the background as an ominous storm appears. The animals seek shelter in the ark as the water rises around them, floating cozily along as the rain wreaks destruction. The downpour eventually abates, and the animals seem to be smiling as they walk off the boat into 'light and warmth and freedom.'
