Are Bike Trainers Worth It?

Riding a bike is great for exercise but if you live in an area with lots of hills, it can sometimes be challenging to get the same workout that you would on flat ground. Luckily, there’s an easy fix! A bike trainer is a device that allows you to adjust your bike so that it’s stationary and ride on the level.

Bike trainers are perfect for people who live in hilly areas or for those who want to take their workouts indoors during the winter months. In this post, I am going to cover how to choose the best indoor cycling equipment and what you should know before purchasing one.

What are bike trainers?

A bike trainer is a machine that allows you to pedal on the floor, so you can ride your bike indoors. You pedal your bike on the trainer and then your bike’s wheels spin while you pedal. The greater the resistance, the faster you pedal and the harder you push. Bike trainers usually come in a variety of different sizes. There are also different types of bike trainers, some of which are cheaper than others.

I’m going to be using a very basic bike trainer so I will be testing a price range from $50 to $700. You can read more about what is the best bike trainer in my new article here.  I’m testing a very basic model right now. It costs around $400 and is designed to fit a bike trainer/treadmill combo.

What to consider when buying a bike trainer

There are many different kinds of bike trainers that people use. Because there are so many different types, there are also lots of different advantages and disadvantages associated with each. Some of the main types are:

Track bike trainers: These are the most popular options. You put your bike on a flat surface, strap a bike to it, and your bike’s wheels spin freely. You can also perform hill or interval training here. These are the most popular options. You put your bike on a flat surface, strap a bike to it, and your bike’s wheels spin freely. Rear bike trainer: The rear bike trainer looks similar to a treadmill and is stationary. It allows you to stand on it and ride, but you still have to pedal in order to ride.

Best indoor cycling equipment

1. TRX Suspension Trainer by Suattiva Performance This is my current favorite indoor bike trainer! Suattiva Performance makes some of the most innovative fitness equipment and the TRX is no different. The suspension trainers utilize a power belt to vibrate your whole body while you ride.

The power belt vibrates each of your upper body, and the longer you’re on the trainer, the harder it becomes to move. Suattiva Performance claims that you can sweat off up to 4% of your body weight! I would usually say I sweat 3% of my body weight, but for those of you looking to get in better shape, I recommend it! There are several different options for TRX trainers on the market. If you have extra space in your garage, consider a single TRX Suspension Trainer.
