Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. I have read dozens of books on gems over the years, and this is the first one to take a truly original view of the field and of the stones themselves. Although I am a jewelry professional, Richard Wise made me finally understand completely how to grade, evaluate, and truly appreciate gemstones. The author is not only an academically outstanding writer, and one who has an instinctive feel for how to draw a reader into a non-fiction topic as though it were fast-paced fiction, he also has an admirably agile and imaginative mind.
