Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. English summary: On the 250th anniversary of the first publication of the Philosophiae Naturalis Theoria (Vienna 1758) Report on the International Symposium in Vienna in October 2008 The first serious attempt to formulate an allencompassing theory on the microstructure of matter and its characteristics was made by the Jesuit and scholar, Ruder Josip Boskovic, born in Ragusa/Dubrovnik in 1711, and nicknamed the Croatian Leibniz by Werner Heisenberg. After years spent in preparation he finally presented his theory and its application in his principal work, PHILOSOPHIAe NATURALIS THEORIA, which was published in Vienna in 1758. On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of its first publication, the symposium Ruder Boskovic und sein Modell der Materie was held on 3rd and 4th October 2008 in Vienna, and was attended by participants from Austria, Croatia, Germany and Italy. This volume of the conference proceedings contains written accounts of the talks given at the symposium. The broad range of material covered by the 15 articles should provide the stimulus for an intensification of research into Boskovic theories in the German-speaking world, where, compared to other countries, there has historically been little interest in his ideas and their influence on later developments. On the 250th anniversary of the first publication of the Philosophiae Naturalis Theoria (Vienna 1758).
