Book First Edition
Hardback. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 2001. First edition. xiv, 550pp., a map, and black and white illustrations. This is the history of the people who speak Bengali, covering both the present-day Bangladesh and the Indian state of West Bengal and other Bengali-speaking areas of the country from the earliest recorded time to 1947 when the Indian subcontinent was partitioned into India and Pakistan, and nearly two-thirds of individed Bengal went to Pakistan. The book is bound in the original laminated boards with titling on the spine and front board and an illustration on both boards. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some light soiling on the boards. There is some chipping to the laminate covering on the spine and fore corners of the front board. The contents are tight and clean with a previous owner's monogram stamp on the bottom corner of the front free endpaper.
